    You have to use an OS where a thread is not another process like Solaris or Mac OS X, for Mac OS X you have to use Darwin 6.0(or Mac OS X 10.2)

    Actually it is private because it is only the people who are employed by the computer who can `listen' to the music. It is not open for public and they are not charging money for people from the outside.

    It is the same way a company can show a movie and have a bank of movies.

    You have to write in assembler or get a newer compiler, like gcc 3.1, woops that is not out yet.

    gcc 3.1 will have both sse and Altivect support in code.

    Mac OS X is Mach 3.0 plus plus plus.
    Mac OS X server/OpenSTeP was Mach 3.0--(or Mach 2.5 close to 3.0).

    for 9 you have to think they developed their own interface and now you want to emulate it, why do you not buy the real thing instead.

    Also they have been helping OSS projects and free software like gcc, gdb, apache and others (FreeBSD is a big one too).

    Windows inconsistent hot-keys have the same problem, in fact it is worse because you have to use you little finger in Windows while in Mac OS you use your thumb. You just shift it over slightly while in Windows you have to shift you little finger down.

    Under Mac OS 9 you can change the view to "As Buttons" where you can get a launcher type of view and be able to single click to open.

    Also the Launcher which came with the first Performa's were like this.

    The SMB browser support went in the new version of SMBFS in Darwin's CVS so it will be in Mac OS X 10.2.

    Actually all recent (like last 5 years) POWER are PPC's.

    GCC (3.1 and above) now has an option to use the prefetch command of the PPC and AltiVec when looping.

    Some one is already looking into how to auto vectorize code.

    Or you can wait till April 15 when gcc 3.1 is released with everything you need built-in(or you can download a snapshot and compile it).
