Why can't you make adding and removing certificates (or disabling the whole system altogether) part of the UEFI standard? That way, any hardware which claims to be UEFI compliant must implement adding and removing certificates. Failure to comply would result in either: high fines, or a free refund for a customer.
This would solve the issue. Isn't this how HDMI (or was it DP) does it?
It seems that Adobe doesnt want to go out without a fight. This will not save flash though. Without iOS support, flash will not be able to survive. I guess I should be thankful to apple.
I am happy to see that we can finally get rid of flash on the web. (It'll most likely still stay in gaming (Scaleform))
On a side note, what does this story have to do with apple?
I think it is actually good Microsoft is starting to experiment with their products. But, I believe this is actually a step in the wrong direction for the pc.
The thing is, Metro seems to be good for people who want to do mainly web surfing / email checking and the very occasional word document (if at all). The thing is, those people are moving away from the pc platform, as there are better alternatives out there. The chromebook or tablets/smartphones provide a much better alternative to the pc.
The rest of us, will most likely want a more classical approach to the desktop. Something that allows us to work with multiple windows easily. Something I always liked about Mac/Ubuntu is that you have multiple workspaces. It is a lot easier to work with those than multiple windows on one workspace. I think this is the direction to go.
Anyway, I will have to wait until Microsoft releases the OS until I can make a final opinion of it, even though I already decided that I will not be getting it. DirectX is really the only thing I need windows for (for playing games), therefore I also wont be getting Win8.

Shouldn't it be "255" and not "265"?
It is 256 distinct values and not the highest number. The highest number depends on the interpretation (e.g. it is 127 in two's compliment).
[...] I've been thinking of starting a personal project, an open-source game, I just hadn't decided what. I considered making a Syndicate clone, but with rumours of a reboot, I figured I'd hold off as I doubt I'd be able to make anything as good as a AAA developer like EA. Having heard this news, I'm seriously considering starting my project (Especially since Corporate Mayhem - http://mayhem.sourceforge.net/ [sourceforge.net] - seems to be long dead). It may never come to anything, but what the hell, it doesn't look like EA is going to do much better.
Let me know when/if that happens. Ill be happy to help out in the programming department;)
I havent watched the video, but my first question would be:
How do you know the Notaries are who they say they are? How can you prevent a (wo)man in the middle attack?
How is this going to hold up? Nintendo apparently revealed the Wiimote on 16th Sept. 2005 (http://www.kotaku.com.au/2011/01/the-manly-art-of-posing-with-video-game-systems/). So Nintendo must have had a working prototype way before the patent was applied for.
I kind of agree. Maybe the next step for Nintendo and Sony should either be:
1) Open the platform for indie development and offer an online store where people can submit games (similar to Xbox live games)
2) Start creating games for mobile phones
Nr. 2 seems very unlikely, so I think their best bet is to open the platform up for indie development.
Cant speak for other users, but I get immensely annoyed when I see search results from other engines (e.g. at work). I immediately ignore the results and type in google.com into the browser.
The reason to move to a js based system should be quite obvious. The only reason winodws is still the most used Desktop Os is because of the ton of applications which were developed over time. If all of these worked on linux, who knows if windows would be that widespread as it is now.
Anyway, the reason i can imagine ms pushes a js system is to ensure crossplatformness in their apps. Windows 8 will be the first time they will support a different architecture on windows (arm). It will be easier to ensure a unified look and feel (as well as compatibility) if the thing is written in js.
Suffice to say, you would have to be mad to develop anything big with js as your main language.
Sex is one thing, but think of the big picture:
You could finally play WoW 24/7 without missing your sleep!

Since when is Wine doing any emulation? Since when is linux emulating? Did you forget what Wine stands for? "Wine is not an emulator.
It is simply implementing the Window Api calls.

It just doesn't feel right anymore.
Don't be fooled! The cake is a lie
Think about the male prostitutes(read lawyers)!! They would be out of the job if you removed software patents

why dont you use a proper document system like LaTex? Once you get started, you will never look back at the Wysywyg world
