  1. Re:First Amendment on Criticize Online, Get Fined · · Score: 1

This is a COURT ruling. While a strict interpretation may see this as a congress-only, the First Amendment is legally upheld by several Supreme Court cases as applying to general state government as well (not just legislature since the Constitution does not require one). It even applies to cities, in that Indianapolis video games case. A state court, thus, can not order one to pay a fine for something which is simply speech.

mmm... that doesn't mean we can't move towards improvement. Some people make way too big a deal, but that isn't my problem.

And I'd have to say this (this story/discussion) is more about the MPAA's wish to control all computers than about copying movies anyways.

I live in Minneapolis. I use a bike; that's one-wheel drive. In fact, I just used it to get back from work. It's snowing out, and guess what? I biked just fine. Works ok, except for after a snowstorm and before the plows come through - at most, half a day.

And I've never ever had any problems driving a 2-wheel drive. People got along fine before the past 5 years and the proliferation of SUVs.

    Suck out capital?

If only they were so nice.
No, the SOA and CIA go in there and put in a nice fascist puppet government until the dictator feels his police state built by the US is strong enough to resist the US. Then we go replace him with another. And so on. In the name of democracy.

Or if they're lucky, the impoverished nation turns to the IMF to loan them money in return for certain conditions which will lock the country in debt and poverty and reliant on foreign capital.

There are plenty of other versions; consult your local library.

  11. Re:Someone has to on PressPlay and MusicNet vs. Artists · · Score: 1

Just so you know, you can take the connectors for your turntable and hook them up via an adaptor (Radio Shack's got'm) to your sound card. Use the Line-In. You can easily find software to rip from line-in or you can even pipe the data to an audio cd. Too bad you can't rip faster than 1x, but it's better than nothing.

  12. Re:if you want to help the artist... on PressPlay and MusicNet vs. Artists · · Score: 1

Hmm... but that likely entails you supporting the system itself in which the record companies are the deciding factor in which bands are made popular. The artist may get money, but only after help from the record company. Go out and support small local bands (or small out-of-town bands if you can, but they tend to mostly play their own town until they are popular enough/can afford it). Go to their shows. Buy their 7"'s. Play them for your friends.
