Well, of course I know the definition of liberal. That but times have changed sadly:( Btw just on a personal note, I was reading through the libertarian faq after checkout out your site. I registered independent, but tend to lean towards libertarianism. But I just wanted to know, how in the world do you expect the country to survive without any tax whatsoever. I've always thought income tax to be bad, but without some replacement, we would have absolutly no support for an infrustructure. Aka Military, interstate roads, etc. We all know how badly the original Articles of Confederacy lead us in being a national power.
Well it appears, as they are using the name Linux that they are releasing a distrubution of a GPLd software. So one, they can use the license given to them properly or they can try to skirt around it by finding loopholes and what not. Hopefully this is not their intentions, but I was just simply pointing out that they arn't following the licensed they choose for themselves by making a linux distrubution. (and no I would not consider myself a GPL fanatic, accually I'm not all that concered personally as I still primarly run M$ windoze. But I do believe, by personal feelings that all software that interoperats with other software should be open for inspection. All driver specs should be open so that the hardware can be used to its full potential. And that all file type artitecture should be open (aka wordprocessor document formats, graphic formats etc.) So that anyone can compete on a level playing field. Is this too much to ask???!!
Guess that ultimatly boils down to where the beta testers fit legally. If beta testing with a select group of people who applied, it still could be considered inhouse. Meaning that you are part of the development group. And what they do distrubution wise among the developers is strickly up to them. And of course, the source legally has to be supplied if asked for, but then you are simply removed from the beta testers, which means they don't have to supply you with the source. As you arn't a recipient of the binary. Now this is all hypothedical on my part. But this doesn't sound as if Corel is truly dedicated to the GPL. It seems the GPL is something it being forced to work around, than something they are wanting to work with.
Generally when your talking about drivers, the source code is almost as good as the specs itself. As the source will generally include nearly all the protocols for properly interfacing with the hardware. It just has to be figured out.
This is for all the people yelling about it only being for RedHat, and not being BSD'd It was released as GPL!!!! meaning they included the the specs. OTHER people can go back now and FIX the drivers, or create new ones using the specs. As long as the new drivers are GPL!!! This is a good thing. The community would be happy with just the specs. But they went one step farther and released and implimentation of those specs, helping out the community farther. So stop bitching everyone. And those specs can also be used in a cleanroom environment to create a BSD licensed version. So everyone can relax and be happy.
YES! great idea. Accually I just checked and it is on dictionary.com. Accually it looks as if a linux lover works there. Compare the definition to unix to definition to linux. The linux one is almost an encylopedia entry. A bit overboard yes, but nice to see. There is even a slashdot and freshmeat link at the bottom!
Accually I'm quite surprised you havn't been able to moderate.. Are you sure the moderation option is checked in you user prefereces? But then again, maby it is the obsessive thing. As Rob did say that can be a reason for no receiving moderation access.
If you look in your user settings you'll find this amazing little tool. You can select which type of news you want to see. So if you wish to not recieve any amiga news, you don't have to.
I seriously doupt freenet is trademarked or otherwise. Generally it just refers to a community network. Check out a listing of community networks, and you will notice that more than half of them have the term freenet in their name. Accually its usually free-net but I just thought you might want to know what the term freenet has become, there may be confusion as you may not really fit under the current definition of a freenet. Check it out.
It would be much simpler to give a special name to the lite version, and give a simple name like server to the server version. Any special name for the server version would be picked up by consumers as being "cool" and they would buy it on that name alone. We are trying for the opposite effect, naming the lower version to make it sound better.
Well yes, but more point was that the people who know what dir is over the past year or so of linux advocacy have learned atleast that much.. and usually have seen a shell prompt at some time.
I completly agree with you. Lets call it Ultra instead of lite.. hehe JK thats a bit far.. Umm how bout Distribution Desktop or maby Distribution User Edition.
(replace Distribution with your favorite distribution of course.. as in RedHat User Edition.)
HU? Every person I know of who doesn't know what ls does also doesn't know what dir does either. There are very few dos users anymore (this is a sad sad thing) and of them most atleast know enough unix to know ls and even a few process control functions.
This is a great idea.. Its probably too late though:( But maby it isn't we ought to put our resources together first to hack the current one (this will force a new one to come out.. cause we arn't getting rid of it.. and on development of a new one we can jump up and offer to "help")
No not really a creationist in so many words. Generally believe that there may be evolution going on.. and there may not be. There really isn't much evidence, but I still find it amazing improbility that the first life even got created. And my example was equating that to the probility of a computer being created by mineral deposits at random.
Accually most of them arn't redneck. Generally fairly well off people suckered into a cult using the name of crist for their money. You think this cult wants those people to accually survive given they are already in their Will.
Hate to tell you this, but there might be some confusion in using that name. There are hundeds of internet providers around called freenets. They are generally publically run free internet accounts. Generally either just a free shell account and or a dialup accout for residence in a local area. checkout tfn.net (tallahassee freenet) or somethig like nether.net for an example of a freenet shell account.
But asking Jackson to take ``judicial notice'' of the industry changes is an unusual legal ploy since the evidentiary record in the trial is officially closed. The judge can recognize these events but can't consider them as evidence because the government wasn't given the opportunity to challenge Microsoft's interpretation of their meaning.
I don't think the collection plate was exactly gods plan. (old testement sayed to gvie some of your work to god (translated money sometimes but thats silly) new testiment just says give freely from your heart (and doesn't really say where to give) Ministers have a way of twisting his words.
Hell... WTF is that? Translate hell properly from hebrew and you get the word death and or grave.. so whats the point. If your using John Milton's Paradise Lost, or Dante's version of hell based on old catholic doctrine, I feel very sorry for you're lack of true understanding. I don't blame you for disliking the Christian faith, but atleast have some knowledge of your enemy.
It was humor, laugh a little geez. And there are many reported cases of catholic priest not staying selibate. Why not the pope, he is a man of action right?
I'm not all that surprised that we share the basic building blocks of a cell. What I'm surprised is is the fact that the super simple replicated life forms disscused earlier all evolved into one cellular life, which then split, instead of many different ways of orginizing life, cellular or not.
Ok I thought the previous guys statement was completly rediculus so I choose to simply not respond to it. But obviously you choose otherwise. Except your responce makes absolutly no sense whatsoever. Please explain.

Accually no a liberal move would be "A Clipper Chip in every home":) *puts on asbestos slacks*

Yes, but generally in a mass of posts one will get more negative moderation than positive. So it works out fine in the end.

Answer to your question can be found at the main washington post article linked in this story (which many didn't fully read) 5th paragraph from to bottom is:
But asking Jackson to take ``judicial notice'' of the industry changes is an unusual legal ploy since the evidentiary record in the trial is officially closed. The judge can recognize these events but can't consider them as evidence because the government wasn't given the opportunity to challenge Microsoft's interpretation of their meaning.
