A law forcing any ISP to support any operating system? Now, THAT is at least as scary as the crap Juno is pushing. It will do nothing but force many businesses out and leave us with a government imposed standard of what makes an operating system an operating system.
Face it, from a marketing standpoint, there's not enough bang for the buck targeting Linux or Mac. To troll effectively, you need a wide net and Windows is the biggest catch of all.
Bottom Line: If you ain't using Windoze, expect to pay FULL PRICE for your ISP.
IMHO, these free ISP target casual users that lack the savvy to realize what they are giving away in exchange for that free connection. By definition, Linux users are advanced. Were I a marketer, I'd want nothing to do with you. There are easier sheep to fleece.

Who do you think Napster is going to buy off with this money?? Pay Napster then Napster pays record company after raking off some at the top for themselves.
Playboy is a gateway form of porn. Once you've started there, you move on to more and more explicit forms of porn and eventually you find yourself being beaten with a leather whip by a women in black leather named Jade while you're shackled to a ceiling fixture... oh the humanity!
I have two children and I wholeheartedly agree with Tomin8tor. Education is the key. Children need to be prepared for the world and not simply shielded from it.
For the first three-fourths of the book, I agree. Then, it fails. IMO, the ending was too pat, too syrupy and dull. Of course, I read EG, so I knew the ending already but was hoping for something more.
Sure, ES was better than anything that OSC has put out in recent years but it didn't have the impact of EG.
I can't agree with this statement. Once you've paid in cash, the transaction is over even if you're unsatisfied. If I'm making a large purchase on appliances or electronics or anything of value, I use a card. Most platinum cards offer some sort of buyer protection that give you some leverage if your purchase is defective (or in many cases lost or stolen).
Sure... there is an element of risk using plastic but there is also an element of risk using cash. Choose your own poison.

I'm with you on Jordan. I read the first Wheel of Time book and 75% through it, I was still wondering where the book was headed.

Jordan... I read the first book in that series and absolutely loathed it. Did it get better?

I see your point. I read LOTR then a lot of others and then came back and read LOTR again.
LOTR has a richness in scope that most fantasy/sci-fi books can't touch. Tolkien did not simply tell a story. He created an entire world suitable for an epic.
I am very disturbed that you are trying to minimize the issue of Child Pornography on the internet.
I simply asked the question. In my experience. It doesn't seem to exist. Your anecdotes and hearsay don't really bolster your argument.
I decided to check the Criminal Justice records. I'm having trouble finding anything specific to child pornography. According to the Sourcebook of Criminal Justice Statistics 1999, Arrests and convictions handled by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Office of the Inspector General, there were 163 arrests with 152 convictions for prohibited mailings containing pornography/obscenity. This is not just child porn. This is everything. Also according to the Sourcebook, U.S. District courts had 328 total cases of pornography/prostitution and 223 cases of sexual abuse in 1998. Again... nothing specific to child porn.
I can only assume that these cases involve adults as well as children. When compared to the number of people that are online in the U.S. the numbers seem statistically insignificant.
Please... show me I'm wrong. Don't give me anecdotes. Give me government statistics.
...and on top of that, you can validate your pages to these standards.

If I check good here... I'm done IMHO.

Come now... Americans don't own the corner of the market on lying. Denial and self-rationalization thrives in Europe as well, I'm certain.

Exactly! Juno is not the only free ISP. There are more.
Do you hear that sucking sound? That's Juno.
Why would it not stand up in court? If you don't agree to the terms, get another ISP...
Hell... if you want free access, there are other options... for example, BlueLight is offered by K-Mart (Where the "K" stands for Kwality).
That's a stretch. If there were three ISPs in the country, there might be cause for concern but ISPs are as common as water.
These are the final throes of a dying company that has rudely awakened to the fact that their business model is a failure.

Similar thoughts are expressed on today's Suck.com. Wireless internet... what a crock of shit.

Right... and Hubbard was such a talented author that he threw it all away to become a cult leader. Sure.

I watched an interesting feature on Arthur Clarke the other day in which everyone laughed over how 2001 could never get made again.
That's what they said about Planet of the Apes also.
Coming to a theatre near you!

What other fantasy authors do you recommend?
I downloaded three of the .prc books. Unfortunately, they are loaded with HTML tags. I guess another option is to load the HTML pages using AvantGo.
Try using RichReader. It's free and works well IMHO. You can download it at Palm Pilot Archives.
You may also want to check out MemoWare. There are many documents for download.
I can't. I won't read a book on the computer but I will read one on my Palm.
BTW has anyone out there read 'lord of the rings' ? It totally rules, and 'the hobbit'.
IMNSHO, you absolute must read Tolkien before you read any other fantasy books. Tolkien set the standard. Everything else pales incomparison.
cheers...
