  1. Distribution sucks on Netflix Now Only Has 31 Movies From IMDB's Top 250 List (streamingobserver.com) · · Score: 1

Movies should be licensed websites the same as music is licensed to radio. Anyone can play anything in the library, but you have to pay the royalty. That way Netflix, Hulu, Amazon would compete only on delivery and price, and they'd have an order of magnitude more content each. And we'd have a bunch of new competitors.

A major problem with mail voting is coercion. A domineering husband can tell his wife how to vote, but with mail in ballots, he can make sure she does what he wants. Can you imagine a whole church group getting together to vote in public? Votes need to remain secret.

Also, absentee ballots are historically a huge source of vote fraud, and that's all this is. Absentee ballots for everyone.

For the record, I live in a state that is all mail in ballots. I love the convenience, but the downsides are not worth it.

We should replace it with non-electronic voting booths. Do what Canada does: a piece of paper with some check boxes. Respectable little old ladies count them in public.

That's exactly what I mean. It is not controversial that there is too much rape in the tech industry unless you wish to argue there is zero rape. The only people that would have any real reason to get bent out of shape about this are rapists. I don't think slashdotters are rapists, so when *they* get bent out of shape it's stupid and illogical.

The men at Yahoo have proven themselves incompetent by running a shitty company. Why wouldn't Slashdotters join in with the woman who runs it now to trash these guys? If they took an egalitarian position, that's what they'd do.

Of course, Slashdotters, me included, don't really no anything about the competency of the men making complaints, just as we don't know anything about the competency of women who make them. The reaction is pure knee jerk.

There is no guiding moral compass. Any such compass would come up "too little information to take sides" on discrimination stories, and "rape = bad" on rape stories.

"Trump brags about sexual assault? Not even seen a Slashdot article about that one."

No articles I know of, but it comes up anyway. The Slashdot consensus is that his bragging about sexual assault will help him, not hurt him. What they really mean is that this will help him in a place like Slashdot, which is all most of us here are able to calculate. It will hurt Trump with America at large. Almost everybody hates guys like that.

"Woman gets sexually harassed? Man gets sacked for dongle joke. Wait, you expect us to support this?"

Slashdot? Of course not. What I would expect is that if a woman were fired, Slashdot would laugh at her for getting her just desserts. I also would never expect Slashdot to investigate whether "dongle joke" was a fair characterization of the event before jumping to conclusions.

America has been through worse, so I have some hope. The with burning it down, besides the chaos, of course, is that we'd only get old fashioned despotism as a replacement. There is no better idea out there yet. I also wonder whether "burning it down" will ever be a good move in the nuclear age.

Flip the story around and the response on Slashdot will also flip.

Woman gets sexual harassed? She needs to man up.

Woman complains of discrimination? SJWs trying to force themselves into jobs they aren't qualified for.

Woman complains of *rape* in the tech industry? SJWs are calling Slashdotters rapists! Sad!

Hillary Clinton runs for president? She's a harpy bitch and your dick will shrink if you vote for her.

Trump brags about sexual assault? It'll be good for his campaign.

That's Slashdot these days. GP was right, this attitude is more accepted around here than it used to be. These aren't not normal. They're not even rational. Typical Slashdot response to these stories often shows a total misunderstanding of the story in favor of knee jerk reaction against "SJWs".
