  1. Einstein on Wozniak Interview In Failure · · Score: 1

Einstein's great theory was the "General Theory of Relativity". This theory is recognized by scholars as a peak accomplishment of a first-class mind. Brownian motion, the photo-electric effect, and special relativity were all incremental improvements on extant theories whereas general relativity was something very new and very original.

To draw the thread back to the Woz, who knows? His best effort might yet come. And best efforts aren't (in my limited experience) expressed in silicon.

  2. Re:Terminator seeds on IP And Genetics: Genetic Copyleft? · · Score: 1

Recent debate in Ohio concerning GM soybeans and growers who are trying to be "organic" has centered on the fact that the pollen from your neighbor's plot is likely to cross-pollinate with your crop. If your neighbor's plants are one-generation, you might end up with sterile seeds, regardless of what you planted.

I like the idea of "copyleft" of plant genomes.

Let's guarantee that we can always go back to "Corn, North American Hybrid #792" etc.

  3. Re:How is the sequel? on A Canticle for Leibowitz · · Score: 1

I ordered the sequel (hardback) as soon as it was available and I was VERY DISAPPOINTED.

I thought the sequel was just terrible. Don't waste your time or money on this piece of trash.

The sequel never captured the magic that made the original so special.

    Math is patentable.

I read yesterday that a patent had been awarded to the "inventors" of a system for dividing up the spoils of (e.g.) a divorce.
The system was supposed to be "provably" THE solution to the generalized distribution of fixed property problem.
My source is the Columbus Dispatch (sadly) and I can't find an URL. Surely someone with a quicker net connection can back me up?

  5. Re: BSOD crap is getting old on Digital VCRs · · Score: 1

My first and definitave experience with the NT BSOD:
print a webpage from IE (ironically, a page
about how to network under NT) and become familiar with the BSOD. It turns out that this was (and is) a known bug.

    NTSP3, 860 printer.
