Who has been incarcerated for port scanning? I am not saying that it has not happened, but from everything that i have read the courts have ruledd many times that "port scanning is like ringing the doorbell at a residence to see if anybody is home." If people are being arrested for this, then that is something that we should be up in arms about.

Cool thanks. I was actually wandering how to set that up myself. I have to say, personally all that use Windows for at home are my games that require it. For me, Linux is much easier to administrate, and to use. I also grew up on DOS and command line OS's. To me it is easier to type something than it is to click through 35 meu bars. But most (ok that is an over generalization) people are lazy. the funny thing about lazines: it always creates more work in the long run than would have been involved in taking the apparent "long road"

Very accurate statement. It is great to dream of a Windows free world, but that is not going to happen. One of the primary role os a good sysadmin is to make the network totally transparent to the end user. This aspect, Unix performs rather well (look at the internet). The other aspect for sysadmins is to have the workstations set up to run intuitively. By this I mean that the average end user can pick up how to what they need to do fairly easily. This is where Unix and Linux are still lacking. Even in small scale office environemts, Linux is a viable option, because you can take more time with individual end users to bring them up to speed. In an environment of 50,000+ end users, this is not an option. The sad part to me, is that this board, while very well informed, is also very biased. I have seen several well worded posts that were pro-Microsoft not get Modded up, and several Pro-Linux ones that were mediocre at best get modded up. I would hope that we are all adult in here and can disagree on something without getting our feelings hurt, or having to make personal attacks (like calling one-another "stupid" for our opinions). A forum is designed to foster debate, and I hope that we can do that in a proper form. I learn a lot by hearing other opinions than my own.

    1) War on Drugs I would legalize all drugs and tax them to raise my salary. (er I mean to give a tax cut to all good people of this country). 2) Minority Religions... The constitution says simply "Make now law.." All exoisting laws would be repealed and you could practice ANY religion anywhere as long as you broke no major laws in the practice thereof.. i.e. human sacrafice would be frowned upon. 3) Why give a tax cut? NO Pay off the debt. (ok well tax cut to me and my friends, but not a general tax cut). 4) electoral reform The idea of a split vote sounds good. As long as it did not cost me an election, I am for it. 5)How Do You Feel About Intellectual Property? A mind is a terrible thing to waste. You think of it, you own it, and if I think of a way to get it, I own it. 6) Encryption.... Irrelevant. This is a matter for the NSA, and individual companies to evaluate, not a president. People will learn (many times the hard way) to protect their own intererst. 7) Rising Political Protests Just dont shoot me. (change is inevitable). 8) Asteroid Defenses Sorry I missed Armegged and that other movie. let me rent them and do some research. 9) The Future of the Country, and of Humanity I am also not familiar with thee topics, let me check TV guide for a program on the history channel about them. Personally I am not too worked up over the whole thing. Congress, in its usual form, has tried to encapsulate everyting in one law. We have seen time and time again how the Supreme Court reacts to broad laws. This is not specific enough and it will be struck down. (I hope)

Cute. Well first of, how much money are WINE and Star Office making? There are soo many points here I am not really sure where to start. This is not a Linux you are dealing with here. This is not a select group of highly skilled users that are driving the technology. This is Microsoft. Every Tom, Dick and Mary use this suite. They implicitly trust their code and have no way of verifying it is safe. Look at the recent virus that have come out just with people understanding the Windows APIs. Can you picture the havoc that will be reeked when people know the actually source code. Kernel level trojans and virus. No more macros virus; now there will be virus that call on the kernel itself. Wake up! Not everybody out there is a developer with pure motives. While it is true that many of us would love to see how the system works to try to improve it, there are still way too many who would be destructive to dare let the code become public. Just my opinion David Dominick "Did you get rid of all the voices in your head? Do you now miss them and the things that they said?"

OK?!?!!?! you were trying to steal their music and are upset that they sent you a file that is an advertisement. Thank you I needed a good laugh this morning and I got one.. AT YOU! This was a greast ploy. They did not stop or even try to stop their normal song from getting up there they just sent out an ad. Dont get me wrong i love Napster and plan to keep using it.. but I also buy the albums (as long as they are not on Sony's label). If you truly supported Napster, not just your right to steal, you would do the same instead of whining like a little baby who's mommy says, " no candy until after dinner." Listen to the music then support the artists. Buy the artists that are creative like this and show the RIAA that they are, yet again, dealing with this issue in the wrong way.

jusdt a litle question for you. I am assuming that you are an American in asking this: rmember the little quote, "of the people by the people and for the people?" I ask this because you said "Who pays for public libraries? No, not the government - tax payers, more specifically, local tax payers. " a little off point cause I think that a few vocal people do not make up "the people." Especially stupid ones. These are obviously in that class because they believe that this software will magically keep kids from seeing porn.
