I can see this option being very popular with the parkingly challenged (trying to be politically correct) gender. It should also make their non-gender-specified spouses happy as it will mean less dings and scratches.
The underlying problem of course is that Google is a company and they want to make oodles of cash. I agree 115.56% that the usefulness of the engine for finding information has declined dramatically. But hell! It is now easier to find people to buy things! Fortunately a recent search on the term "dog snot" did *not* reveal any vendors.
Part of the problem is that it is not just the bands themselves who are after "Napster-like" activities. The managers, producers, record companies, etc... are all trying to get their share of the pie.
I think that including advertising in the mp3 is a great idea. If you want free music, ISP, software, etc. you have to put up with some crap. If this bothers you then you have to pay the piper, so to speak, and buy the product. It all boils down to someone paying the bills.
We had some problems running some of our software (quantum chemistry) in paralel on 2.2. The 2.4 kernel seems to handle the distributed network better than 2.2 did.
Hopefully the delay in the release of the new Voodoodoo card was due to an effort by 3dfx to actually fix the bugs and make it work, unlike predecessors.
