The big boys surely can't seize control of the current situation - i would think that it's grown beyond a level where they can control distribution over the net. If you really believe that they can then I'm scared.

"the only principled stand being taken against 2600 is not a protection of artists, but a protection of profit. Many artists have spoken out in support of this freedom."

We should remember that in days gone by, the artists generally performed a service for common folk, for which they were well rewarded. Today the artists achieve far more wealth than they require, mainly due to the parasites that they have been forced to feed. And then the parasite creates an instinctive need in the host to consume more than require...

I believe that most artists today would be happy with the same deal as their ancestors. It is the businessmen behind the scene who have pushed the whole entertainment industry into a money oriented culture.

We need to cut out the middle man. I see a day when an artist can put out their own material, for which they will get their just rewards (both financial and other). The entertained will be receiving a cheaper service, which means they can experience a wider range of artists, which means more artists, which means... etc.

*The open source culture can pave the way for this to happen. And should.*

  6. Re:Mach 1.5? What about terminal velocity? on Sub-Orbital Skydiving · · Score: 1

that's to do with the air resistance mate. it kind of acts as a brake - like if you were to floor the accelator in your car while the brake is on - you wouldn't get any acceleration.

the constant speed she'll be falling at when the air resistance prevents any more accelarion is called the terminal velocity and that's what you're thinking of. This terminal velocity will decrease as she gets further into the atmosphere and there's more air - so more air resistance. So they must reckon that on the edge of space her terminal velocity will be mach 1.5 ish. i think close to earth its about 120mph???

and if she's lucky she won't be travelling at her terminal velocity when she hits the ground...
