  1. Re:More corporate greed... on Nokia Media Terminal · · Score: 1
Another area they have expanded into is network security. Similar to what they are doing with this media broadcasting box, they have taken a computer running a scaled-down and hardened version of BSD, put it into a router-type box with various interfaces, and are selling it with Checkpoint Firewall-1. See here for more info.

I'm not sure if I mind Nokia's entrance into these fields. The common theme seems to be that they simply repackage normal computers, running unix, into appliance-type boxes. I'm curious to see what other applications they come up with.

Agreed. The lawyers can only prosecute legal entities or individuals; their scope does not include the internet in general. This may mean that the large or identifiable organizations partaking in "questionable" activities will dissapear, but this should not hinder the average user's ability to transfer whatever, with whomever, they want.

  3. Re:"Degree required" on Techies Saying No To College · · Score: 1

Even if someone is hired into a compay without a degree, there tends to be a glass ceiling preventing these people from being promoted past a certain level. Especially in larger organizations, those without formal education may find it difficult to get into the higher-pay upper management realm.
