Also, let's not forget that if he sends a smail or writes anything on paper, it has to be archived and made available. Phone conversations? I think so also. He can't avoid it by having someone else write it as that also becomes public record. If he is concerned about sending stuff over email, we should be concerned about what he is doing that he wants to be kept secret.... Breaking the law maybe? Unethical behavior? Asking his handlers to handle things he is incompetant (sp?) about?
I would think that Jr, given his parties interests in completely removing any real privacy from employees and individuals (he'll get the FBI some good email/internet survellience tools, and work hard to put back doors into encryption) (inspite of what the libetarians (sp?) think, Jr is very interested in removing personal freedoms.
Given all that... As Americas #1 employee, he should be happy to make everything he does complete open and available to his employers (us)
I'm of the opinion that all the interviews that he gives suck. He comes off as a arrogant asshole who came up with something and is huckstering constantly. Most of the interviews come off as Python will save the world from Perl (which really sucks!!!), not about how Python will help (other than obvious OOP, whitespace, stalanist protection from yourself) real programmers. It always sounds like the interviewer has been interviewing a sales brochure.
Sign me up baby! I went out, bought a book (just to see what all the talk about Python was), read the first couple chapters, and returned the book as I realized that the whitespace thing was too much for me.
I you like python, try ada, pascal with objects... Any of the languages that are considered "good for education/learning because of...." but suck when you try to use them (except to the people who have bought in to the particular language who then LOVE then language)
Yeah, but if good documentation was a requirement for success, MS would have gone under long ago. OTOH, there is a huge aftermarket for books about MS stuff. There is also a growing market of linux books for less technical people. If there is one good book about linux, then that problem is solved. (need on for staroffice etc... which are also coming/are here)
blah blah blah blah
And I don't like the auto cartel I can build my own car, or buy a bicycle thingy blah blah blah I can live in a shack in the middle of the woods, hunt for my food, grow a garden, blah blah blah
About the time I had to give up OS/2 for W95 was about the time that MS had established their monopoly. The funny thing was that Netscape was the reason I went to W95 since it wasn't available on OS/2. If I (and a few million others) had only known.
MS has a monopoly on the desktop. They are getting their ass kicked on servers.
Just so you libetarians (sic) can label me, I'm in the camp that believes that companies should be required to play nicely, share stuff, and work towards making the world better instead of their stock holders (excessively) richer
Given a choice between have the "judges" throw out the case/judgement (as this court appears very pro business) and having MS tied up in court another 2 years. I'll pick tieing them up. I think a lot of positive has come out of this as MS has been forced to watch themselves (although now that Jr. is in, they're getting bolder again.....)
Think how MS came about because IBM had to watch their step.
Yes, but, well kinda.... You can't release the source for their stuff. You can't produce a competing product using their stuff.
MFC && Tools++ would most likely be put under the lgpl meaning that you can link to them (dynamically) and distribute your stuff however you want. All the commercial software (Oracle, Wordperfect, etc) under Linux would be impossible otherwise.
But you don't want to pay for anything that doesn't directly benefit yourself. Meaning, you don't want to improve living conditions on this planet (except for yourself)
That makes my top 10 list of stupid analogies. Maybe the kid decides that ice cream isn't that important at this point, or that dad will give it to him/her anyway, or that they can go get it themselves. Plus it's insulting to those of us who either do or have worked for the government. There are lots of people in the government doing the best they can. I just read an interesting article that basically says "If I don't get something done it's because it was too complex or I didn't have enought time".. but "If someone else (the government employee) doesn't do it, it's because they are lazy, stupid, or covering their ass". Something to think on.
No wait! Star Wars II is going to detect a ship carrying a bomb bound for the US and destroy it. Or it will detect the terrorist building a biological weapon in their basement, and strike them dead!
The point being, are ballistic weapons the real threat to the US? Or are we building Star Wars II for Raytheon, Locheed Martin, etc and Tiawain && Japan?
I know that you want to give him the benefit of the doubt.. But given how little we know about what he will do, and what a good Republican he is, and how he likes privatization, etc, etc, etc I'm going to assume the worst
Let's start with something even more simple... Roads. Can you imagine stopping every couple miles to pay for the next stretch of private toll road?
If people are going to whine about wasting their tax dollars on stuff, at least they can whine about things that have a lower benefit/cost ratio. Let's dump 2/3 of the military budget as a good start.
You are joking, right? Anything that isn't direct corporate welfare or blows things up is on the chopping block. I bet that if it even comes up on his radar that he will suggest that we should privatize and that magically companies will start financing space exploration and getting people to Mars.
I really wish people would have the same attitude about some of the DOD programs. What a waste of money, and lots & lots of failures. Their recient attempts at hitting missiles still seems to include a large part of luck.
Even if NASA stuff fails, all scientists/engineers still learn something from the failure (costly lessons sometimes). And we do gain alot when they succeed.
I think we need to put more money into NASA, and less into DOD.
Heh! This will make all current firewalls obsolete as not there will be all of your data going thru the 80 port. To me, this means that the firewall is now useless....
Gee, and then they can go thru the pain of learning how to port it to different platforms.
I thought the article spent too much space telling us why this isn't linux and how linux sucks, and too little space telling us useful stuff about Hurd.
What's wrong with looking after my own paycheck are we all running around saying how it's a dog eat dog competitive world? Well, if I can reduce the competition, than that's great for me.
I don't want the jobs that become available at lower salaries. I want to get paid the most possible for the job I'm in.
If you're under 35-40, you shouldn't even be allowed to reply about competing in the job market. For companies, H1-B isn't about getting the best workers, it's about getting the cheapest. If they can increase the labor pool, that's good for them (and only them). They can hire cheaper (and the are cheaper inspite of what the politicans & corporate execs say) than the more experienced (older) american workers.... This will be you eventually.

Alright, gotta say it... But the DOD would classify the failure, and no one learns anything... :(
