  1. The Public Service Commission on The Joys Of Big Business; or Why AT&T Long Distance Sux · · Score: 1
On every occasion that Ameritech/MCI/AT&T/the guy next door's mom have had to screw me, I have merely called the Public Service Commission in my area. You merely explain your problem to the helpful people at the PSC, and they go to bat for you.

By "go to bat," I mean, bludgeon the offending party.

Each time (4 times) that I have had trouble with a phone company, I have called the PSC. Within one-half hour, I was treated to bounitful apologies from the manager of the company in question. Of course, any dispute over money fell in my favor each time.

It's probably worth giving the PSC a try.

Okay, this is possible, if the PCI busses are seperate, at least 2X, then I'll buy it, but did you divide by ten or eight? Either way, it's somewhat silly.

I am absolutely on that bet. I'm sure that the guys working on this, programmers like you and me (well, at least, like me), want to screw the public so bad that they're going to to make some MMX'ish joke change.

In fact, I'm so sure that I've already set a new $20 aside. When I mail it to you, you can use it as a bookmark for your ever-static place in "Learn C++ in 21 Days," page 37.

Heck, I'm at work right now. I'm going to make sure that our mp3 writer writes invalid frames, so only our applications can read them!

Excuse me while I hang myself.

  4. Hey, I've got an Idea! Let's post! on DeCSS Source Mass-Posted to Usenet · · Score: 1

All right, everyone is complaining (especially around /.) about the DeCSS case, the Amazon one click, Napster and the RIAA, and now this Hasbro suit. Sorry, it's time to get out of the basement. Pry your fingers off of your wouldn't-be-touched-at-a-leper-colony keyboard and do something about this. I can't stand the frustrated posts (like this one) anymore. We're losing everything that made the geek community different from everything else, and we're losing it to media mongols (not a mistake) and lawyers. We're losing it to judges who don't own computers and laws that are always questionable, but all we do is post. Do you want to do something worthwhile? Write a letter, or throw some of your hard earned green at something other than your DVD collection. Right now is the time to get serious.
