Could someone mind telling me exactly why people need broadband on planes to begin with?
Noone is doing so much downloading that they cannot put it on pause for a few hours.
Hardcore gamers wouldn't use this service either -- signals bouncing from sat to sat to plane rarely provide nice pings.
I might expect someone to say "What about those telecommuters that MUST check in and work while on plane?" -- since that bill would be footed by the boss I DOUBT they would make this mistake more than once. . . and they think airphones are expensive.
Could SOMEONE tell me what an average (or even slightly rare) traveler would need a sweet broadband connection while in the air? Perhaps the other companies pulled out because they couldnt answer this question themselves...
My thing is that one of these viruses one day are REALLY going to cause a problem. Yes its a shit but what can you do -- beat into lusers that they should secure their boxen?
What happens when one of these "cute" or even "malicious" virus hits something important -- like a realtime airport control system or even a hospitals network.
Yes its the idiots fault, but you can at least SEE where these things can be similiar.. right?
Yes yes yes... I have seen.. every day... that Microsofts IM is a "key componet" of the windows XP.
What I want to know is how to get rid of the blasted thing. I dont want a process running on my box sucking up my cycles when I KNOW there is no way I will be using it.
My favorite anime would have to be Serial Experiments Lain. It had simply beautiful artwork, an interesting story, and it had a subplot that was QUITE away from what it originally looks like.
No spoilers for those curious but the creators said that this could not be understood by Americans (or, rather, non-Japanese). It deals with the struggle between western influence and the traditional Japanese way of life. Viewed under this context and with a shading of "What else could this mean" you can read a LOT of different plots into lain.
For this reason (if not the hundreds of others), Lain is definately worth the time of those interested. Describe in 2 words? Fun Headtrip.

I feel, for the most part, the way you do.

Out of the list I must agree with you.
