Putting it simply - satellite Internet SUCKS! The mom of one of the owners of my company has DirectWay at her house (in town, but cable doesn't go there - neither does DSL) and it's flaky, SLOW, and requires a god-awful looking device to sit in between the computer and the satellite cable. IF you live where you can't get dial-up *maybe* it's acceptable, but other than that stay away from it!
You are correct - only the "High Priority" updates are installed "automatically"... The "Software, Optional" and "Hardware, Optional" have to be installed by hand.
Now that's not to say new computer don't come with other "auto update" utilities installed on them (HP, Sony, et al) that will install god knows what...
"Generic Hardware?"... We've installed a few POS systems and small-footprint, touch-screen POS systems are anything but generic! Thermal printers and credit card swipes are NOT cheap. Small LCD-based POS terminals (typically AMD K-6 processors with 6+ serial ports and whatnot) run $3000 for 'off-brands' and upwards of $5000 for IBM or NCR...
Saving $70 for Win9x or $150 for WinNT might be nice for 90,000 terminals but it certainly isn't $3,000 per terminal!
Because advocating something for 20 or 30 years makes it right?
It's not a lot, but it's our life!
Naw, just his Homeland Security Secretary, Michael Chertoff.

There's a reason why Scorcese's "Raging Bull" doesn't center on the world frisbee champion, you know
That could explain why the score is -
Three 6 Mafia - 1
Martin Scorcese - 0

Look at the upside - no little batteries running around if you teach 'em to hand-crank it themselves ...
You should try thinking about baseball or something ...
