I love the panic that comes from credit card number theft in an on-line context. To the worrisome masses that own and use credit cards but don't use them to purchase stuff online:
Have you ever used your card to pay for a meal at a restaurant and the server walks away with your card and comes back a couple minutes later? It is the same risk, you don't know if you card number is being copied down by someone whilst out of your possession.
Any decent credit card company offers protection against fraud anyway - some specific to online transactions like Amer ican Express for example. I'm an AMEX card owner have unfortunately taken advantage of this benefit in the past and they took care of EVERYTHING.
Perhaps I'm oversimplifying the situation, but I see it no different than in the off-line world of financial transactions - no more less risky. Buy freaking gold bullion of you can't handle it.
I know this is off-topic but the article said something about him living on a 28 rather 24 hour cycle. Could someone point me to some info on what that is about?
It would seem to me that the intellectual property in a classroom that a prof (and therefore the teaching institution) could claim ownership of would be the style inwhich the prof/school convey their lessons.
The notes produced by student based on public domain lesson content (ie, 2+2=4) would seem to me to be the intellectual property of the student. Whereas the actual lesson content (2+2=4) remains public domain.
Actually, this all gets kind of ridiculous. Everything you know was taught to you through instruction or example. Should Bill Gates' mom claim intellectual property on his brain (and therefore business ideas) because she gave birth to him? Where do you draw the line?
After much trial and error, I found more compatible and more rewarding relationships with those who are not of the geek mindset. Why? This encouraged me to spend more time off-line with my SO and enjoy more of what life has to offer beyond a monitor.
It also let me more thoroughly escape the technical "job" aspect of my life. I'm the type that will work on a "job" task even while at home if it captured enough of my attention. Leaving work behind at my "job" and living a non-tech life afterhours has helped me get my life back into focus and has provided me with more enriching romantic opportunities - which are nice.:)
I know this comment is redundant but I want to go on the record even if my karma takes a hit..
I've been a Sandman reader since the start and mourned when it stopped a while ago. This new post brought a smile to my face on an otherwise dull Sunday night going through area edits on my game.
Neil's tight stories and the awesome art work by several talented individuals were tremendous sources of inspiration for me whilst in college.
I try to emulate in my work his skill at making the fantastical seem read and reality seem so fantasical. If you're reading this Neil.. I love your work!
P.S. When's the movie? Johnny Depp as Morph anyone?
"Interfaces Connectivity --One 12-Mbps Universal Serial Bus (USB) port for USB devices such as printers, storage devices, keyboard, mouse, USB hubs, and data capture probes"
What the hell do they mean by data capture probes?

This problem probably would have been caught sooner had the keymaster source code been released. How about it, d.net guys?
I am in the market for a cheapo refurb laptop and whilst browsing I came across this page:

Check out the logo.. doesn't it look a lot like the logo from the linuxone site?

Hell, the file names are even similar. Is there anything original here?

From the ibook specs page on the apple website:
