The Intelligent Design crowd had a chance to show their scientific evidence, under oath no less, to the judge at the Dover School trial a couple of years ago. Most of their leading lights couldn't or wouldn't show up for some reason. Under oath, Michael Behe (hope I spelled that correctly), asserted that for ID to be scientific, astrology is also scientific.
Further, ID proponents have been offered the opportunity for funds from the Templeton Foundation for the purpose of research. No takers have stepped forward.
My applologies if some of the names and details have errors in them, I'm working from memory here.
FWIW, there is a somewhat related article in the 22-Feb-2008 issue of Science, pp1034 to1036. While not directly concerned with legislative schnanigans (sp?), the article gives a nice overview of the personal cost of getting stuck in this quagmire.
Also look up some of the information on Glenn Morton's website regarding young earth creationists.
A little longer answer: You claim moral is low, and indicate no confidence in management, nor is there an indication of contractual impediments or any other claims the company may hold. The only thing which appears to hold you back is concern for coworkers of competence/friendship/something. Hence, the loyalty question is more concerned with those individuals and not the company as such.
Assuming the above summary is correct, give your people first notice of your departure, give them the positive incentives you are in line for (more money, more interesting project, or something), while neither saying nor implying anything negative about the position you are leaving. Keep in touch with your now former colleagues regularly after working hours, to be able to offer a hand with resume, letter of recommendation, leads as needed.
With respect to the highways, with the understanding that the Interstate System was built for military use, I seem to recall that roads would be owned by companies/individuals interested in selling access to those roads. Which should raise all sorts of privacy issues, since your vehicle could be tracked virtually all the time, and by inference, you would be tracked. And then there is the issue of selling that information of where you have been. Even if selling that information is forbidden by law, the existance of such information should be terrifying. IMHO of course.
To begin with - appologies for a big multi-part multi-question effort. The question I _want_ to ask "How far up your heinie(sp?) is your head jammed to please your contributors?" really cann't be asked, and if asked, wouldn't be answered with reliable information.
1) In your opinion, how large (pages of text) should the tax code of the United States be to balance the interests of fairness, administration, enforcement, and comprehension. A single number or numeric range needs to be identifable.
2)yes/no - multipart
Do you support the required use of blocking software by public internet facilities, eg. public schools & public libraries?
Do you support the use of federal money to purchase and support blocking software for public schools and libraries, without respect to any policy of requiring the use of blocking software.
Would errors (either type 1 or 2) in excess of 5% by blocking software be acceptable levels of accuracy?
3) yes/no multi-part
Is Social Security in reality a Welfare Program?
Is Medicare in reality a Welfare Program?
(Over the past two decades, there has been much concern over "Welfare Mothers" and such. I have seen it asserted that both these programs are fundementally Welfare.)
4) How are energy, environmental, foriegn(sp?), and economic policies related? Keep it short: say less than six sentances using words of less than four sylables.
5) Education continues to be important politically. What is required of an education which will permit a person to behave as a responsible citizen, with opinions grounded in reality.
6) One word answer: What is the arbitrator of your ideas, opinions, and policies? Faith? Theory? Personal Experience? Concensious Experience?
Again, appologies for the multitude of questions, and the length. And the spelling/typing which I know needs a few more corrections. 8-(
The magic promise of a politician is to "lower taxes". As long as the debt exists, and entitlement programs exist, the only taxes that can be lowered are special ones, paid by special interest groups to pay for the obscenely expensive campaigns.
The point raised here, especially in view of the actions of the Fed, is crucial.

The short answer is: "Bail NOW".
