But the Bush administration has threatened to veto the funding because they support ever-larger corporations owning ever-bigger chunks of the spectrum that theoretically belongs to the public. Clear Channel may need to cough up some more money for their lobbyists.
Instead of pandering to the MPAA, and watching sales never really take off, Pioneer has decided to submit a potentially profitable piece of hardware to the market.
Wrong, California has a huge Republican population, its just gerrymandered into specific counties... except Senator is of course, statewide.
Davis won because of the "worst of two evils" principle, he's a criminal, but Simon came off looking like one as well. We would have had a Republican Governor if even a mildly better candidate had arrived (like the LA Mayor, I forget his name)
Also, Condolezza Rice is a California resident, it's possible that she would run for Barbara Boxer's Senate seat in 2004 (unless she's busy running as VP, which I doubt).. she would be pretty much a shoe in - Republican support in the central and eastern areas of the state, along with centrist black and women voters.
I'll be forced to vote against Barbara Boxer for more real reasons than "broadband." You know, her votes on things that jail people, say like DMCA etc...
If you mean a party that moves back to the left, sure... They'll lose even more seats.
In fact, I see the Democrats in a losing position no matter what. If they stay centered, they lose votes to the Greens. If they move left, they lose votes to the Republicans. Not an enviable position. I expect them to stay put, and after 2004 start promoting election reform (condorcet or instant runoff)
Waitsec, didn't USAPATRIOT pass a Democratic controlled Senate?
You're talking about the difference between somebody who's going to take away my rights -and- my wallet, and somebody who's just going to take away my rights. Shitty choice, but it's obvious who to choose.
Probably was referring to the administration's refusal to back meaningful accounting reforms.
Ok, I'm all for accounting standards, and I agree that current standards are insufficient. Yet, it's the market that needs to require certain standards, not the gov't. At the highest level, trading floors should require useful standards for any company wanting to trade there. Moving down, brokers can require such standards before they suggest them, and individual buyers (of any means) can make such weighing standards part of the buying process.
Yes, the stupid, impulsive, and other ill equipped people will get burned. Just like it should be.
Sure, they mean higher unemployment and lower secular growth than the US, but they didn't stop Europe from dragging itself to prosperity after WW2.
With direct financial assistance from the US after the war (to which, only one or two countries have paid back) and by relying on military assistance ever since. It's time we cut the cord, and let the entire EU support their own existance.
In the dock workers case, the company won't bring in scabs because the job is too dangerous.
This is not true. The companies would have -loved- to bring in scabs. They are restricted, by law, from doing so. This is where the power of the Unions have exceeded safe limits. Collective bargaining is fine, but there's the risk that if the bargain goes too far south that the entire Union will be replaced wholesale. Since that's not a legal possability, it means that Unions hold -all- the cards.
It is obvious that you didn't read the certification, which used the exact phrasing I did. Win2K has the prerequisite of requiring any connection to be under a single managment domain because machine to machine traffic is not secure, nor authenticated.
Besides, a more secure Win2K should mean a better Net for everyone.
Is the entire net under the control of a single management domain? No, thus any Win2K box connected to the "entire net" doesn't meet the requirements for certification and is just as problematic in regards to trojans/viruses/etc.
In other words: No change. Nothing to see, move along.
You haven't seen the newer (than two years old) Google racks. While the older racks are nothing more than 1RU machines, they've evolved four machines per RU, last I saw their racks. Considering they're all diskless and completely on remote access, I think that qualifies as blade.
I don't think anybody is claiming that Microsoft doesn't have the right to sell or not sell XBox's wherever they please. However, this does not translate into the right to buy a law to suit their needs.
Hm. I have a two-button... er, three button... mouse for my iBook... sure, I had to buy it.
That's a valid point for a desktop, but for a laptop (as your ibook) it is not. Try using your external add on mouse on a plane, or in any situation where it's a laptop, instead of ap ortable desktop.
Pet Peeve #23958: People who whine about gas milage of SUVs who do not ride 80mpg(plus) motorcycles instead.
Simple, "Left Economics" -requires- Authoritarian gov't control. Otherwise taxes don't get collected.
Not, mind you, that libertarians would approve of gov'ts sticking its dirty nose into who owns what media.
Bitter, anyone?

Now if it had 30sec forward, I'd actually buy it.
The movie only had three protagonists, is the fourth person you?
Being able to "sneak into Kyoto" is now. We don't want to, and I hope that doesn't change.

Reality check: you can't legislate technology into existence. It takes time, energy, a bunch of smart people, and a ton of money.
Except you forgot one thing that wireless needs: Bandwidth.

Oh really? Who signed DMCA into law again? CDA? NET?
All Clinton.
At the end of the day this president is going to be remembered...
Remembered for deciscive action in the face of a attack on our soil, isntead of spending months wondering "why they hate us?" and asking them to stop.
Too bad Linux isn't cerfitied at all.
To which, the obvious question is: Has anybody tried? If not, then it's like saying my toaster isn't certified. Big deal.
BTW, machine to machine traffic in Win2K CAN be secured, and CAN be authenticated as well...as long as you control both machines.
Which is why such a reality is a PREREQUISITE of the certification. Thus, the certification is meaningless in real life.
Thank you, play again.

To fill an Average family car with petrol in the UK costs £50 or $80
To fill the same car with petrol in the USA costs £15.07 or $24.11
Blame your gov't. It is called taxes.

I think they have every right to do this
