In all honesty, the number of people that actually go out and buy the hardware simply to run homebrew, even XBMC, software is extremely small. The problem for the manufacturer is two-fold:
1) If you buy the hardware only to run homebrew games then you're not putting the money into the 'system' the way that you're supposed to. Even now that MS is breaking even or making a little profit on each XBOX sold, the amount is nothing compared to the licensing fees on EVERY game that's sold or the profit on first party games. It's a losing proposition for them. But even more important is the fact that
2) The same methods that allow you to run homebrew software on a system also allow you to run pirated, published media. In a shareholder-centric company there's no way that you can do anything that jeapordizes your ability to make a profit by enforcing copy protection. If someone could solve this problem it would likely go a long way to making a hardware manufacturer more homebrew-friendly.
1) The article is only 4 paragraphs long, and 2) At the time of my reply, this moron has been modded to +3 Insightful,
Galveston County Asst DA Michael Elliott explained, "The police in the game were staying, 'Stop, we have you surrounded. This is the police.' The burglar, unknowingly, thought this was the actual police and panicked... being apprehended by Playstation."
and also
Police arrested the four men. Samuel Woodrow received a five-year prison sentence this week. Ronnie Farris is serving four years. Lucas Griffin got probation. And Zachary Brandenburg's trial is in January.
It's one thing for a -1 post to say things like "wah, wah, wah, what are you talking about, this is stupid, i bet it's a hoax" but when people are burning real modpoints, it's just a travesty. Travesty I tell ya.
Start grabbing the winners from previous years... they're almost always fantastic. There are links to interpreters for almost every platform... I know for a fact that my personal favorite (Frotz) isn't available for Mac, but ZIP is.
We were watching "Sgt. Kabukiman, NYPD" at a local art theater a couple of years ago, and the film broke right at the very end as his comic-relief sidekick/girlfriend says "Gee, now that the badguys are all dead, you've got another 1000 years to kill! What will you do till then, Kabukimaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" and the film broke and burned. Everyone in the theater laughed, applaueded, and got up and left.
It wasn't until the movie came out on DVD that I realized that wasn't the real ending to the film.
What you REALLY need is for someone to extend the existing Agents API that's used for Office Assistants. I'd be a lot happier looking at the little bastards if they looked like Lara Croft.:)
"Also we think it unfair that only those users with fast connections can download CD images."
This really infuriates me. In the same breath that they _appear_ to understand what capitalism is all about, they imply that people who spend their own money for broadband connections in order to have the luxury of downloading larger files faster are somehow walking on the hands of the poor little HPBs. I'm sorry, but I work my ass off for every dollar I earn, and I choose to spend three times the cost of a 56K line in order to get broadband access to the internet.
This is what a *lot* of developers have been waiting for. Anyone who does 3d work, be it an animator, game developer or architecture student has been held to the desktop since portables started being an option for real work. Having a full-speed, real 3d implementation means that I can now justify purchasing a laptop.
I've waited years for this!
Hush!

And only slightly more symbolic is the name of the town in Alaska that they visit: Nightmute.

Wasn't Yamhill one of the hobbit names in The Shire?!

For shame.

A is A. 'Fair' doesn't enter into it.
