Knoppix, and Ubuntu do not seem to have the same requirements to upgrade. They work fine for me, and my web based material seems to be working. My web service applications are working, and my web based GUI has not hiccuped. I sell real estate, and it is not 100% Safari, Opera, Firefox, IE5.5/6/7 useful, I hear about it quick. Maybe the old business peridime of maintaining non web based commercial software solutions is starting to hit a choke point with the coefficient of friction approaching 1.0?
I am not a CPA, but until the ride into space occurs, it would not seem to be a taxable item. No moneys, assets, or actions that generate revenue have happened, yet. I am thinking that the equivalent would be winning the lotto, and not collecting any funds, but I am still liable for the taxes of the winnings? Would I still be taxed on the funds I have not received yet?
Also, the space suit is ad space, pardon the pun, the revenue generated by renting that out would more than pay for the taxes, and a tidy profit also.
It has been proven that an idividual action, that also helps the group affected, is the best action. Anyone can contribute their actions to Linux, and have done so; We have all benefited from their generosity. One can use Linux, and one can change it, and without sacrafice. Free of persecution from others who would creep into our homes, uninvited. Linux, helps the enviornment, it has the ability to give older hardware a chance to help others. Linux, created by just few of the planet's people, has given humanity a way to better its self without tides to Ceaser.
Let us look at what AJAX is, HTML, CSS, Javascript, XML, XSLT; And some XSD, for those of us that are washed. I prefer not to use the COM objects, because, well, I prefer not to be "Browser Locked" to an older obsolete browser. I RTFA and found nothing to indicate that Microsoft had added any more to its dotNet product than it had before. If I look for ASP in AJAX, it is not there. If I look for upgrades to maybe XSLT 2.0, or maybe CSS 3.0? Nothing is upgraded. Where am I wrong?
Ya, I was thinking along the same lines. My request of these types of articles is a simple Benjamin Franklin table. Column 0 has the function, columns 1 thru n are the products. +1 goes in the cell, if the product has the function, and it works; else 0. This lets the reader make the decision as to what is best for them. The conclusions reached by the author could be biased, and yes, the table could be biased. But when the table is laid out, and readers are allowed to add or subtract functionality. Readers can then judge what is best for them. This will lead to a better product, as opposed to a product with so many functions as to be unusable. Or an over hyped product with little, or no functionality.
I just figuring that the same thing has happened again, only the victims know what to do next, and will accept this with jaws tightly closed; Lets face it, when China sees Bill Gates before G.W., it is painfully obvious who is really in charge. The same result will be that once folks figure out what Microsoft is doing, the followers will adapt, and adopt. And those who follow the Open Source Solution will wonder what the fuss is all about.

I just got a bill for $320 for using 1,300 kWatt hours, last month it was $280 for using 1,200 kWatt hours. I have been looking at how to reduce my dependence on the electric company. But I have yet to find a solar solution that is not priced at break even amounts of money. Where should I look? Also, in my community, this is a non-community-type-issue, I am alone in this quest.
From a Software Engineers orientation; Microsoft made the Tool Bar capable of having multiple rows, and now there will be Icons for each function. From my perspective, the challenge will be creating unique Icons for each object function. A possible constructive solution might be to contact the Disney animators; I think these people would jump at the chance of creating something new and exciting? The one thing that Microsoft has maintained as a well designed user interface was that one could do the same thing with a keyboard, OR with a mouse; When applications do this, my wrists appreciate that.
In considering the cost of telling everyone what the EU is going to do, and not do; Maybe it would have been cheaper to just find a common ground for Linux, OS2, and that other high priced solution that is associated with 'Wild Tangent'.
I did RTFA,(forgot my med's, again). But lets consider a typical school purchase of a Sociology Book, for 1300 middle school children. The approximate cost to order, handle, store, and distribute was $115,000. This book copier looks like a good purchase, except for the Binding part. The pretty picture, on a casual glance, shows hard bound books. I think, realistically, that the binding is of a thicker paper type; That means the book can only be used once per child, then on to the recycle bin. Does the machine require special paper? What are the cost of service, getting the book titles, replacement ink, and paper? If these questions have been answered, then what are they? I this type of machine would be worth while learning more about.
All the Linux Gods have to do is create an interface that makes openOffice look and act like Office, make Firefox look and act like IE, make KDE look and act like Windows. Make it a user option, if you get my drift. So that my parents could not effectively tell the difference. But it should not end there. Once an inner interoperability mile stone is reached, call CNN about why you are going to place a flower,(for inner interoperability), at Microsoft's Front Door each time. Ya, it will start off as a goof, but Gandhi "tweaked" an empire doing it that way, an smiled all the way back home.
From my point of view, "Trickle Down" means watching one of my fellow students filling out a white silk blouse, 4 inch spiked heals, darkened lens shades, and some color variation of camouflage pants while gliding in to my sociology class and sitting down in front of me. I causally note that all of the materials being worn in front of me are by-products of past military product requirements. Strictly speaking, from a military point of view, life is good.
IMHO, I always thought SOAP was over engineered. Simple Web Service's are like a console program, but the input is in field form from the web, with input type checking. Output is an XML string with an embedded "xml-stylesheet" statement, (for the unwashed). The security of a simple Web Service is; Simple. A Simple Web Service already has many locked doors to slow down uninvited guests, and the other doors that the uninvited enter can be easily closed. This act from Google will reduce their maintenance cost, and should increase their band width by reducing their output to smaller chucks with the same information. The following files would be cashed on the client side, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, XSLT, and XML; So a simple change to one file, and the Client Side will download only the changed file. The Server Side has only a Simple Web Service of one input entry point, and one exit point. The Client sees faster turn-around, the Server sees a bigger band-width.

I find myself in the market for a new laptop; The 17 inchers are at the top of my list. But dual booting with Vista raises some serioius questions. As the Clash said, "Should I Stay (dual boot), or Should I Go (Windows has forked to a broken path)." The author puts forth an excellent argument that my parents would understand, "Vista is pretty much the only game in town." I do not think that I can agree with them because of the cost of diminishing returns. I use Windows for testing web pages, Zone Alarm, Partition Magic, CIV4, and Flight Sim; 40 gigs is enough. My concern is to have Vista upgrade XP, without corrupting my Linux install. Can I do this? Can Vista play nice with Linux on the same machine. Only time will tell the truth.
Randomizing the stack sounds like a great idea, to cure the symptom; Not the problem. Maybe we should wait for Vista SP1 before feeling comfortable leaving the front door open in an inner city environment that is the Internet. I do not know any better, but could someone post the results of having a Knoppix CD read a Vista formated hard drive? I am getting this nagging feeling that my M$-Zombie boss is going to let me find out, the hard way.
This morning I was asked, "should we buy a PS2, or a PS3 for the children?" Wii, Xbox, and PS3 all have price tags that are a little to pricey for this Santa. From my view point, I cannot see homework completed using the Xbox, or the PS3; But the notion is intriguing. It boils down to game title, and compatibility. Microsoft is doing to consumers what IBM did to consumers using Microsoft; That still leaves a bad taste in my mouth,(In both cases). I think it is only a matter of time before Sony realizes that access to their entire box via Linux will finally allow some curiously entertaining games and applications to be created. I can plug my laptop into my LCD TV, same for the game boxes; So which has the better graphics, and feed back? It looks like this Santa has a trip to Fry's, Best Buy, and the Toy Be Us folks; Today.
An interesting idea, but topics 1 thru 3 require complicity in grand theft. Topic number 4 is intrigging; Why not have the interviewer present code, and have the candidate describe it?
I do not think that I like the concept of Left Behind's new game. But I think their company name speaks volumes, especially from a "Mission Statement", "point of view?" The new, and old testament are ripe with First Person type game plots. A personal favorite is the old testament story of Jacob vs. Laban. One could play the kid crazy in love, or the father trying to rid the kid who just does not get it. Either view point is a humerus "Gripping White Knuckle" event; But I also think that due to its content, children should not read the story, and should not be allowed to ask to many plot related questions.
To show source code does not make sense. How is the interviewer to know that it is yours? I do not now of a single business that would authorize the showing of code they paid for, just so that a person could get a job, at a different/competing business. There is also to the ethical question of, "If you show code to this company, you would do the same at the next business you move to. I have always told interviewers that if they wanted to see my code, they could ask the company I worked for to view it; No takers so far.
It struck me as kind of interesting, the notion of looking up patents. But I was wondering if that kind of stuff would also be the area of the Wikipedia. From an entertainment point of view, the art work of the patent might be interesting. I think that the prior art thing might be easier to consider if more people could respond; Maybe from a "common public good" viewpoint, this could prove to be helpful for everyone. Just a thought, but I am wondering if there would be value in seeing what patents have been registered in other countries?
I RTFA, the web site refers to Lisa Zyga's essay as an editorial. I think the author is trying to be irreverent; Because the supportive information that the article is missing made the reading of it very comical. I enjoyed the article's sillyness. It takes a long time to create a style as popular as Samuel Clemens. I wish for the continued growth of the author, and I look forward to her next try at being irreverent.

While alcohol detection has its own merits; Could the guru's of Toyota consider implementing the following improvements to automotive mechanics?
impact avoidance,
battery limitations,
auto piloting,
I only wish I was smart enough to solve these problems.
