You didn't state it, but the intention of your comment seems to slant that way to me. Forgive me if I am wrong.
You are, but don't worry about it. It will be my turn to be wrong tomorrow:)
My point is, we can't conclude that Walmart employees steal because they're underpaid. We can't conclude that Walmart employees work there, and are therefor underpaid, because they're thieves. The correlation (if it exists) doesn't tell us a lot. Whether I'm an elitist or an egalitarian tells us nothing at all.
Good point; if the problem is "How can I get my kids a good education," there's a solution. It may involve a lot of hard work and sacrifice, but it can be done. If the problem is "How can we collectively ensure that all children get a good education," no solution may exist.
This is just an hypothesis: education works best when we make it easier for people to solve the first problem. Education policy starts to fail when we try to solve the second. I'll have to give that some thought.
If bloggers wish to be afforded the privileges and protections held by mainstream journalists...
The first Amendment doesn't grant priviledges to journalists or to anyone else. It imposes restrictions on the government. No first amendment in Canada? That's okay; I'm not in Canada.
I reject this idea that there's a class of Journalists who have a greater right to free speech than I do.
you'll see college become as pointless and as irrelevant to success as high school, because more people will go to college without any reason better than "I need a degree...
If all Americans from 15 to 18 have to go some place, that place will become highschool.
How do you know they have a hateful and vile viewpoint? I didn't even know of their existence this morning. All we're left with is 'somebody said."
As someone else pointed out, I don't even speak Pharsi, so I don't see how I could read their viewpoint anyway.
As I said, I don't dispute that they are hateful and vile; I just don't know, except on someone else's say so. Did US government policy have something to do with taking them down, if they are down? Don't know that either.
If the US government did decide they're bad guys and shut them down, presumably there's some sort of review process to prevent abuse. Something in the checks and balances department.
Hopefully this review mechanism is something more effective than a couple of guys on the internet calling each other 'terrorist' or 'nazi.'
So if the Republicans increase their majority in the Senate in a couple of years, will the education system get better too?
I think the Democrats just don't want the Republicans writing the reform plan. From the Demodrats' point of view, there's nothing wrong with that. The Democrats don't want the Republicans messing it all up.
The problem is, every politician for the last many years has used the impending retirement of the boomers to try to scare grannie into voting for them. Now they're hostage to the rhetoric that used to serve them so well.
It kind of doesn't matter if he's heartless or not. His plan to let them suffer the consequences will only last as long as it takes to get a camera crew on site. Then we'll see on national tv the poor starving children and grannies, and SS-2.0 will pass by acclamation.
Well, that was the point, wasn't it? Reduce headcount, cut costs, profit.
I suppose Oracle also wanted to get closer to a monopoly by gaining market share. The point of the whole exercise was profit, and maybe personnal aggrandizement, given the participants.
"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain."
you have to podcast about something. You can't just podcast.
They could have avoided that difficulty by starting web logs instead.

when employees are paid for shit and treated like shit, they are much more prone to theft Maybe people inclined to steal end up with low-paying jobs.
Google's decided to not talk to CNet anymore. How is that Google blacklisting CNet?

Easy; Let teachers throw out kids who don't want to learn; Let schools throw out teachers who don't want to teach.
Hard: Figuring out how to do that.
you tell us what colour it should be.
two branches of the government are already controlled by one party
Help me out here: There are three branches and two parties; What outcome were you expecting?
It's entirely different to claim to believe in Jedi and to claim to BE a Jedi.
Maybe he's not a very good Jedi.
I can't think calling them "boxen" helps.
Hey Mister! You wanna buy some Linux boxen?
Get away from me you freak!
I thought "private property" was a lie.

I teach math. Often one question will contain the answer to the previous question. It makes no difference.
note for Pedents
You mean, of course, Pedants.

sight unseen?
The only question I would ask is, "Is it good or bad?"
If I like it, I'll hang it on the wall. If not, I won't, no matter who (or what) made it.

D'oh! Good point. "If we had ham, we could have ham and beans, if we had beans."
As pointed out, it seems to be available, but no use to me.
I don't dispute what you say, but if the site was up I could see for myself.
I Repeat: SOCIAL SECURITY IS FINE! RTFA!
It was coughing up blood last night...

it's never been a janitor.
In my experience, it's more likely to be the VP of Marketing.
