  1. Performance is tricky on Ruby On Rails Showdown with Java Spring/Hibernate · · Score: 1

Performance is a tricky thing to measure accurately here. Unfortunately, Sun spends more time optimizing its Virtual Machine for Intel architectures than it does for PowerPC architectures. This is simply because Intel accounts for more of the market. The result of this is that Java apps often run faster on Intel than they do on PowerPC or even Sun's own SPARC processors.

I'd be interested to see some performance numbers on an Intel based architecture.

However, I'm most compelled by some code maintenance aspects of Ruby. As a Java and .NET developer, maybe it's time I take a look at Ruby.

Actually I think it's mostly a tactic to keep viewers from changing the channel.

I disagree. A show can end at 9:00 and something else can still pick up immediately after it. Whether this happens at 9:00 or 9:01 or 9:12 is irrelevant. The one minute time-shift is solely used to screw up automated recorders that use published guide data to determine which shows to record; this keeps the recorder on the current channel.

I wish Tivo would allow you to record shows even if it misses the first or last few minutes of a show. Event better would be if this interval was configurable.

If I were in charge, I would add a new tax bracket: 100% tax on every dollar over $100M. The people affected would still have plenty of money to buy Lear jets and politicians

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. This gives absolutely zero incentive to earn more than $100M. Why would someone want to take on more responsibility and stress and less downtime just to hand over any income above $100M. This would then result in hindering all technilogical and medical advances that might help mankind.
