  1. Re:As if... on Own Your Own Russian Space Shuttle · · Score: 1

Reminds me of the Russian baker who, during the fall of communism there, bought a MIG-19 from the government for all the bread he had.

He parked it on his front lawn.

I graduated from science there in 98. I remember seeing the Midnight Sun sitting beside the B2 parking lot as I walked to and from classes... But now that parking lot is being sequestered for the new building instead. I wonder if they'll have to park the MS elsewhere? Maybe over by that natural gas truck?

Well, I have a $20 CDN Off Peak LD cap each month with Ma Bell, and only $0.10/minute fee during peak hours! So THERE! Pbbtthhhttt! VOIP is a little too expensive to be considered just yet, although basic non-call charges are getting freaking pricey lately!

  5. Something Missing? on Non-Wet Water · · Score: 1

What the article doesn't mention is what the actual size of this water bead is. Everyone knows that the smaller the diametre of the bead, the larger the surface area for any given volume. So if they're big beads, then less powder is needed to form a bead, and presumably, less work is required to recollect the water, say, at the end of the pipe. But if the bead is very small, the there might be a reason for getting into the business of farming club moss!

You're right RareHeintz, I stand corrected. Geez, I even bolded the number! How dumb am I? Anyways, that's still a pretty small object when you look at the size of extrasolar planets that they've been finding to date by the "stellar wobble" method. How big are they? 10 Jupiters or so? 1/4 the size of Jupiter if freaking small, relatively speaking.

  7. Re:do you want fries with that? .... on Diesel Cars - High-Tech Low Tech · · Score: 1

I'm afraid you're mistaken. Currently operating diesel engines do not require any modifications to make use of biodiesel. This includes the rubber you're talking aboot.

I've even heard of a guy who spliced a feeder line into his fuel line and had a petcock from a motorcycle at the junction to control flow - either from the tank, or the jug of off-the-shelf vegetable oil sitting in his passenger footwell. He started up on the regular diesel, but when running, he switched over to the canola. Worked like a charm! I want a diesel just to do that! My car gets a lousy 16 mi/ga (7 km/L)!

World Energy is a company that will premix fuel and deliver it to your door. They also just installed their first biodiesel pumps recently in Arizona I believe.

Have you ever heard of the Red Green Show? Using his brilliant ingenuity, we could have a multi-manned mission to Mars on a shoestring budget of $100! A couple milk crates, some cardboard, gasoline, a whole lot of duct tape, and we're there man! Hosers away! Don't forget the beer, eh?
