I don't know if your comment was posted with tongue-in-cheek, but allofmp3.com doesn't pay a single dime to the artists, so no wonder they are so cheap:-(
Local artists (Denmark) have been struggling for some time to get any money from the site-owners, but without luck.
Before you jump at Minidisc, consider waiting to march 2002 - I know I do..
The new models overcomes the last problem with the MD, recording time - and let's you transfer the mp3's directly from your computer to the MD unit - very handy:-)
1. Where to put the creditcard/job-keycard/other cards - in the pockets in my jeans.
2. The minidiscman - inside my jeans, hold tight by my belt - makes it, and the headphonecord, not visible.
3. The cellphone - jesus.. hmm.. in my hand ?
4. the rest of the stuff you "need" for your everyday job..
I don't know, I usually tend to stuff it all in a small plasticbag and get out the things I need @work.
Hmmmm.. Here's hoping someone has a better solution - preferably one where I can't be spotted as a technology-bearer:-)
I'm not a guru with electronics, so i decided just to use a TV-out capable gfx-card, place the minitower computer in a small closet near the TV, controlling it via an infrared mouse+keyboard(mainly). I've placed the DVD-kit and a tv-out voodoo1 card in it too..
The main problem with this setup, and with all the other solutions on these pages so far:
NOISE!
harddrive+ ordinary cdrom (makes a lot more speed-noise than an ordinary cd-player) + the fan
I'm so annoyed with it that I have just ordered a stand-alone dvd player:) Which in fact is a cheap-ass one too: http://www.kissnordic.dk/msiepage.html
One final note:
I thought that I would be using the computer for playing mp3's as well, but since the setup was ready I have only used it a few times. The point is that I like to have control with my mysic-playing, and therefore still uses my main computer (attached to the stereo) for mp3-playing.
I'll say that you have to make some serious considerations before building a stand-alone mp3-player.
