What I cant understand is that there are many companies making money off of out of copyright work. You can still buy Charles Dickens books or any of the books in the project Gutenburg in bookshops and people still do. Its called value add.
Music is the same. Simply add value and the fans will still buy from you even though they can get it free elsewhere. Signed T-Shirts, Postcards, anything really that adds to the package and as you are the person who created it you have access to more things that your fans would like.
Out of copyright definately does not mean out of profitability you just have to try harder.....
If this is the advice given to investors then it is no wonder that the markets are in such a mess. In fact these experts think that $45 dollars will be a fair target.
"Skiba calculated his $45 price target by forecasting earnings and revenue based on licensing agreements for Unix and other licensing opportunities."
Do we know whether or not the licenses granted to Microsoft etc were perpetual or annual, because otherwise I cant see where they think the additional funds will come from ?
From the article it also looks as though they are still angling for IBM to buy them for $1 BILLION. I think IBM will not buckle and will just crush them.
The main reason these 2 companies are going for the diamond market is to raise funds for their main target CPU's. The wired article mentions that a diamond based processor would be able to withstand temperatures that would liquify a silicon based processor.
This is the reason why we need to fight software patents within the UK and EU. Please email, write, telephone your local MP , MEP and let them know that software patents will kill our industry.
I am not sure but if the EU starts to accept software patents will the US patents be enforceable through WIPO or similar. If so then the EU will already be at a loss as all the US patents will come into force and by typing this I am probably breaking a few of them:)
This may be setting a precedent for upcoming documents. Later documents may show what dealing the US and its allies had with Iraq . As you can see below Sadam came into power in 1979 and documents due to be released would have been 1978. Maybe they are getting too close to revealing the nature of the wests early dealings with Iraq.
Maybe they just cant be bothered, who knows:)

Wouldn't you be outraged if a car company came out and asked for donations to improve safety features or fuel economy?
If the car company gave me the car for free then asked for a donation I may well think about it...

So which is it ?
Why cant legislators just make up their minds and give us a definitive answer ?
