  1. Re:MOD Music on Ten Technologies That Shouldn't Have Died? · · Score: 1

And you always tried to keep the files as small as you could.
Well why not implement a MODule format where the instruments would be encoded in mp3 ?

No more restriction on the sample size! I Think for techno or dance it would be great, as those are pretty deterministic music. Back then, dance MODs were limited in accuracy because the samples of the girl singing bullshit a la "Talata the real thing..." were just too long. With mp3 compression no more problem such problems, and modern CPUs are largely capable of decompressing multiple samples at the same time.

  2. Re:Why the Minitel is still alive and well... NOT on Yahoo! Now On France's Minitel System · · Score: 1

Last summer, I was on holiday in Bretagne, and after a few days, I felt the need to check my email. So I entered a France Telecom shop, and asked for a 15' access pass for their public internet workstation (Which cost me FF10 - USD1.5). I had no waiting time, the PC was absolutely free, no-one wanted to use it except me.

In the mean time, there were some 5 people queuing to use the public minitel console. The using fee was also FF10 for 15'.

In the discussion "Every vote counts" vs. "My vote doesn't matter anyway", did you think of those people Florida, people with 'supervotes' : those who might have to revote in Palm Beach, with each of the 3000 people having to make the definitive choice for 100,000,000 people (only counting those who voted)! That's more than 333,000 people represented by a 'single vote' in some way ! ------------------------- Hope It won't be Bush : USA is a modern country, and should not be an illustration of the most disgusting part of the bible.

  12. Rethinking the electoral system : go French ? on And The Winner Is... Nobody! · · Score: 1

(I am not French) In an election where there is only one person to elect and the others get NOTHING (senator, representatives, president), couldn't it be more fair to do it in two rounds, a first round to vote for the one you really want, and a second round to choose the "lesser of two evils" between the two that got most votes in first round ? This works pretty good in France I think, and the global representation in the Assemblee Nationale matches better what the people really voted for.

In normal countries, there is gun control, and people just don't get killed. But again, its only in normal countries.
