  1. Really, no protection at all. on New SecuROM Ties Protection to Physical Structure · · Score: 1

    I can't beleive there's been over 200 comments and nobody's actually mentioned...

Daemon Toolz does indeed have the capability to use images which contain the physical media information. The program used to create such images is called Fantom CD and is linked to from the Daemon Toolz website.

I've successfully backed up my Serious Sam 2 disc. The images are rather large though (>800MB for SS2).

  2. Response from IBM on IBM 120GXP Revisited · · Score: 2, Interesting

    Sehr geehrter Herr Holmes,

Danke für Ihr Interesse in unsere Deskstar 120GXP Festplattenserie.

Die angegebenen 333 monatlich 'empfohlenen Betriebsstunden (POH - Power On
    Hours)' in

Dear Mr. Holmes, Thanks for your interest into our Deskstar 120GXP fixed disk series. The indicated 333 monthly ' recommended operation hours (POH - power on Hours) ' in the data sheet of the Deskstar 120GXP should not be assumed as the highest boundary. It is only a view of the typical application in a Desktop environment, in which the majority of these fixed disks are predominantly used. The Deskstar 120GXP Model is suitable for a 24/7 operation, should require it your application.

Yours sincerely IBM Technology Group support Centre

Are they back-tracking on the previous back-track? (is that possible?)

I currently have 2 x 60GXP and 2 x 120GXP in my machine (40G each) running 24/7. Max temp as reported by IBM's fitness tool was 34deg/C. Strange clicking noises do happen from the drives, we'll wait and see how long it takes...

  3. Still makes a difference though... on New 3D Cards On Slower PCs · · Score: 1

I've had my P2-350 (clocked to 434) for quite a while now, so it's starting to show its age. Mind you, when I swapped my TNT2-M64 for a spangly Geforce MX, it gave it a new lease of life!

Q3, Half Life and UT now run nice and smooth, 3D Mark 2000 scores have doubled and I'm a happy man.

Deus Ex still runs like putty though, but you can't have everything.
