  1. SANCTIONS! That's a hoot! on India Plans A Supercomputing Grid · · Score: 0

After speaking with an Indian programmer I work with I found out that the only thing those sanctions did was light a fire under the Indian universities R&D people. Within a year India was building their OWN supercomputers. A year later they were competing with us in the international market.

He was quite proud of this and rightly so.

    I quite agree.

CmdrTaco is leaving more and more objectivity behind.

It's really pathetic, like watching someone get further and further into a cult until you just ignore their opinion on any old "shite" completely.

  5. Anyone remember OWS? 1500:1 fractal compression! on ZeoSync Makes Claim of Compression Breakthrough · · Score: 1

OWS was a Lossless Fractal Compression Program that had similar claims of unheard of compression.

It turned out that all the program did was create an encrypted directory listing of the files you were compressing. The program would then use the listing to search your hard drive for the same file you thought you had compressed when uncompressing the archive. It then copied the file over to the directory in which you were uncompressing your fake archive.

When it could not find a file matching the listing it simply told you it had a disk read/write error.

Here is a link to the google archive about it.

Porn (soft or hard) has been and always will be on the forefront of technology because of it's success in the market. The day the game developers get their collective minds out the gutter is the day they start failing to make money. Here's an idea for an article. Research all the games that have been spectacular failures and see how suitable they would be for advertising on PAX.

Simply put a popular vote would make our politics look just like our entertainment industry. Everything would happen in either New York or LA.
