In it's current state, or of that for the next few years, yes. But how about in 25 to 50 years. Is it better to wait for new technology to come out of other applications to shoot down incoming projectiles, or try to start developing anything now?

If not now, how exactly are we going to have a planetary defense grid when space aliens or whatever might come at us in 100 years? Almost everything we have now started development 25 or more years ago, right?

Yes, I watch too much science fiction crap tv...

  3. Bush's Nuclear Defense Shield on U.S. East Coast Bombarded By ... What? · · Score: 1
Is the upside to the nuclear defense shield that someday we might be able to also target larger meteorites and take them out before they try to take us out? It is still way out there, but maybe by the time they get the d*mn thing working, there might be a budget for tracking meteors.

How much longer until a cracker gets a credit card database, with e-mails or some other goodie like what you shouldn't have bought? Will it then e-mail you, see if it gets in, and then e-mail your friends telling then what you got? That will get privacy concerns up in a hurry.

  5. JP3: SPOILER ALERT on Fleeing Jurassic Park III · · Score: 1
I went to go see Jurassic Park III a couple days ago.

Less action than JP2, but thankfully a couple less glaring plot holes.

Hearing a phone from inside a dinosaur's belly, and again in his excrement pile later is a really far fetch. None so much as a T-Rex getting out, eating shipmates, and returning to his pin though...

If you want to computer animate dinosaurs again for your movie, please try to get a better shuttle to the screen than Jurassic Park again Hollywood.

Sheesh, we only saw the 'Park' proper in the first film... But no, you had to release dinosaurs at the end of this movie to threaten us about a forth. I assume those were Quetzalcoatlus'?

  6. Intel at 20GHz on IBM Develops Transistor Capable of 210GHz · · Score: 1

So how does this differ from Intel's annoucement that they will reach 20GHz by 2007? Intel says their chip will be .2 micron, IBM says their chip will be 1 milliamp. Is IBM going to try to make end-user processors with this? Are we going to see any real numbers before they do anything real with the technology?

'I'm an American, I believe in the American Way,'' he said. ''I worry if the government encourages open source, and I don't think we've done enough education of policy makers to understand the threat.''

Oh? Well... I'm an American, I believe in the American Way. I worry what will happen if we allow companies to make every product on a subscription payment basis. I can see bills on services (utilities), or things you just can't own yet (house, car.) But your operating system? We already have to pay monthly if you want to pay Ulitma Online, how many software monthly bills are we going to tack on?

When is the original DIVX makers going to come back out? It is starting to seem they just pushed their plan to early...
