Bochs already reached its goal. Alongside other features, it emulates NE2000 NIC hardware and with such a feat we can communicate to IP-enabled software inside of bochs using our own environment. Even better, we can spawn multiple bochs systems and the fenced-in software may communicate to eachother. That great... What I think stinks moreso is the virii that can get inside of the bochs systems and how badly they may wreck the software; not to mention the performance-wise devestation of a anti-virus scanner inside bochs. Great, more limits to think of. And I was just now hoping Bochs would migrate a little towards the system of the bochs environment to interface to my Linux system's environment so I may have a virtual x86 that is somewhat accelerated. It'll always be just a testbed-type resource; nothing like DosEMU or Wine. Wine *could* be inter-would with Bochs for those of us not using X86 hardware. Whas that being too masochist? Yes, No, Ignore?
In a world of virtual networks ontop of encryption and living upon the internet, who are they to know what communication is moving between private hosts? Whoever says it isn't private, let me assure you it will be when you are unable to decrypt the transcription. It was never intended for your eyes if it were private. Internet service providers thinking they can try to filter and scan data based on its socket number and IP headers will just be a waste of time, waste of money, and waste of resources. Time, money, and resources are one and the same and nobody should be forced by contract to make others compliant. That would be like me being forced by the mob to dump all the dead bodies off the bridge for free; I say do it yourself and I'm the necromancer. muah ha ha.

That sounds kind of scarry to think about it...who knows, maybe Barney the Dinosaur was part of somthing more sinister...and we all know there was somthing extremly wrong with Pee Wee Herman's show.
I noticed some people are speculating on the sourcecode and I want to inform you that the GPL'd ROTT is far from being buildable.

My lungs work fine in bad air, but that isn't to distract from people with Asthma. Is it true? The Alpha platform is not dead yet? Reserected back from the dead? Doom1 is now 64bit? ID Software is porting their software to Alpha? By Joshua! If ID Software can push videocards to improve, think of this being the Jesus Christ of computer platforms! Yahooo! Thanks for pushing Alpha! This proves that ID Software is the only company that can inspire market deman for products! Think of how great this is! And I was told that Doom was developed mostly on NextStep machines...those people of 10 years ago were way off, ID Software was a closet-Alpha all along!
I asked what *inspired* his head to be on the stick; I know his two fellow graphics artists put his head on the stick, why John Romero? Did JR have bad dander? Why not barney the dinosaur, michael jackson, or McGruff? I just finished looking through all the screenshots of Doom and wow they made some good choices on the end product that would've changed the sales outcome if they hadn't.
DEC designed the Alpha CPU to interface to the BUS and RAM over multiple pipelines. Their EV6 is the prime of their effort. EV7 is even better. Due to DEC's inability to attain loans and offset the high consumer cost to make Alpha more affordable, they were in a position to sell themselves to Compaq and their financial team followed. Compaq, same tradition, sold-out to Hewlet Packard and we all remember when HP's President declared HP will close its doors if the merger didn't complete. And now HP is *trying* to kill the Alpha at the ev7. Alpha is fastest in the market, and HP is also canceling its own in-house PA-RISC in favor of the much slower Intel Itanium2. Only company left with a license to produce Alpha hardware is Samsung and they've already dumped the technical details of their Alpha products from their website. This world stinks...Star Trek pulled off the air and now Alpha. Ode to Bankers for conspiracy and marketers for pushing inferior non-Alpha hardware.
Yet Doom was more effective. Given Carmack and Romero were two different design aspects, one man being all about implementation and the other focusing more on content and art; and the question I always receive from people is the same...
"WHO THE FUCK DO I HOLD RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CYBER DEMON AND THE SPIDER MASTERMIND TO BARELY FADE AFTER BEING NUKED A HUNDRED TIMES WHEN I AM BUT A MERE MAN WHO CAN BARELY WITHSTAND 1 ROCKET BLAST MYSELF?"
Doom had so much immortal gameplay put into it that strategy of choosing how to fight one of the nearly immortal enemies is what caused many gamers to pass their Quake bootcamp with flying colors. Doom's cheatcodes is what separated the draft dodgers from the 1337 strategists. I'll never forget playing 2 player DOS DOOM1.666 over serial cable...I have never played a multiplayer Doom game ever since; I tried to play csDoom, but at the time some dork made a denial-of-service app and always intentionaly crash the csDoom server 'cause he didn't like the csDoom maintaner and the poor implementation. Go figure?
Puting aside all the splattered corpses, deranged vertebrae, snarling beasts of death, and moppy hair, what inspired you to be the the man to control the immortal death-spawning machine of E1M30?
Will I meet you again, some form or another, maybe even in a healthkit, somewhere within the scope of Doom3? It wouldn't be the same without you...Carmack thinks a good game is moreso implementation than creativity. You are the creativity, Carmack was the implementation; separate, we would see somthing less.

It seems like the only obstacles in complete Linux security are the current slew of buggy user-land software that grant such. I use mostly LinuxFromScratch on a 164UX Alpha computer and install software the ol'-fassioned way by only downloading, building, and installing archived sources. I beleive debian's Apt and RedHat's RPM are much too monologous within their simple user-land methodologies. To properly manage the software and security installed on any given workstation, it will require somthing much more sophisticated than Palladium. Now would be a good time to discuss Unix software as a whole in attempt to build a more reliant and secure user interface as well as the secondary goal of preventing Microsoft and the United States (government) from using contracts and intellectual property to defer freedom and/or security on their whim. A kernel-based real-time, on-demand, file auditing routine would make this possible. By any chance, would it be possible to filter binary code into a parsable markup language to filter for any exploits or do we still have a long ways to go and need to consider MONO? But I still degress, the user-land tools and their common-practice installation without fine-grained permissions is what kills many secure systems. All someone needs to do to exploit a system is telnet or ssh with a valid account name and password and the intruder has all the options of the system to their disposal. We have User, Group, Other, what else? I am thinking of a hundred security measures possible with dnyamic symbolic linking of userland applications based on user and group permissions, but it looks much too difficult to implement because anything that breaks today's userland software is what determines the life of an operating system. Exception to Microsoft, they can change whatever they want and all the application programmers just release a patch because that's who they chose their "big daddy" to be: Microsoft.
I can name a Role-Playing-Game that is rare to buy everywhere including eBay. Everyone who tried playing it the first time usually became bored or angry and stopped, only to try again afterwards and find it fun. This game was, I believe, the first to use one of the first stupidest copy-protection attempts... Do you remember those days? "What is the word at the bottom of page 169, paragraph 2, sentence 9?" or "Please take out your cool game manual and press the number for this symbol." Those kind of copy-protection questions...ha-ha-nice-try.
The game is Darklands. Try looking at darklands.net, hoping it is still available and abandoned.
I enjoyed leading my party of four amish warriors into a town of satan worshippers and I burn their hamlet to the ground. Of'course, one of them gets away and says he'll have his revenge on some day and I take note of that and where it takes place for future demon-slaying action. Then, I go up the hill a little ways with my three other buddies, "Hogget", "Helga", and "He-Man" and we call out the demon and grind him to hashes under our feet. As we leave the ruined hamlet, I always make sure nothing is left alive by going back in and...nothing. When I'm strong enough, I go looking for the dragon and the dragonslayer. I kill the dragonslayer to get his stuff, and then I slay the dragon and am more famous than the dragonslayer now anyways. Then there is the mine hauntings; full of gnomes, knockers, vulcans, and dwarves. Lots and lots of stuff and flexibility in this game.
It's a verry rare game and actually took a few historians to contribute to for (yes) historic accuracy on how all the fruitloops of a thousand years ago behaved. I think it was released in 1989, I'm not sure. First time I ever seen this kind of cool and fast VGA graphics on a blazingly fast 386 20MHz desktop, SoundBlaster, MIDI, with Mouse control on MSDOS. Then came *cough* Doom and I that evil Romero and Carmack fellas I hear about all the time forced me to upgrade. At least I played mostly Duke Nukem 3D more than Doom... And those were the history of my days in IBM PC DOS, Novel DOS, and MS DOS.:) FreeDOS is where it's at now!
Every part of the movie and music industry is infected by the MPAA and RIAA. For a successful protest to ensuel, we must all be as Mr. Richard M.
And those were the history of my days in IBM PC DOS, Novel DOS, and MS DOS. :) FreeDOS is where it's at now!
Every part of the movie and music industry is infected by the MPAA and RIAA. For a successful protest to ensuel, we must all be as Mr. Richard M. Stallman: question all of our charities and purchases, discuss our position and reasoning of why we will not participate in any even that has been infected with the MPAA and RIAA. RMS does this verry well, and yet people go as far as disrespecting him jus because he knows his priorities. It is a matter of time before we start seeing everyday people ask,
"What would RMS do?"
lol
