Of course, this is only geeky, but not useful. Yubnub is useful. I advice you to set is as a default search engine in your browser (in opera, use search.ini). For instance, I use "y gbs foo" to search for "for" using Google Blog Search.
Very cool demonstration of what AJAX can do for interactive web applications: Anyterm - an ssh-like web-based terminal that doesn't rely on a java applet. Needs apache2 to run, though. Also, have a look at "livepage," which is part of the asynchronous python web development framework called nevow.

That's another reason why zsh is preferred by some people. You can do excatly that in zsh by hitting Alt-p.
I administrate a few XP boxes that were infected by Lovsan/Blaster even though the Windows Update facility said that there were no updates available (before AND after the attack). Also, the "Windows" menu item was greyed (disable), so updates couldn't be selected manually. This pretty much destroyed my faith in the whole automatic updating system.

This game does all the code in perl using the SDL perl bindings (which makes the code as short as possible and easy to change) with special effects written in C (.xs file). Works like a breeze (besides it's addictive).
This article is a misconception altogether. Virtually all multiplayer games (including ego-shooters) are peer-to-peer systems, meaning that the players connect to each other. There is no server that does all the maths, basically every system is a client.
This is true for all networked games (Doom,Quake,Starcraft,Diablo except MMORPGs like Everquest). There's nothing new about it either.
Note that this has absolutely nothing to do with file sharing, warez and mp3s.

If you still have those old Lucasgames/LucasArts classics somewhere in the attic, check out ScummVM - an amazing project that allows you to run your old favourites (Monkey Island, Day Of The Tentacle, etc.) on your modern box (windows, unix, dremacast!). Of course, if you don't, you can go buy the old dos games for cheap money on the next corner.

Uh? That was irony wasn't it? Over here in Europe it's not common to have a phone in your bedroom - there's usually only one phone in the house (and a few mobile phones of course).
I'm hearing great things about Sun hardware, what about buying an old SPARC Solaris box on ebay? Would it worth the $$ for a student just to play with a real unix?

Everyone knows that Privateer is still the best space game there is, no?... and Monkey Island 2 is still the best adventure.

Well there are servers that host debian and kde and linux kernel sources and these are not paid, are they?
If a working and fun game is ready (or even in beta stage), there'll be lots of people offering some server bandwith, and assuming there'll be good load balancing, thounds of simultaneous players will be possible. The problem is much more how to get to this point.

Even though it was published by Microsoft, it was easily the best space game, if not the game of the year. Honestly.

Are you such a dreamer to put the world to rise? I'll stay home forever, where 2+2 always makes 5 to me.
