  1. Maybe already said but on New (More) Annoying Microsoft Worm Hits Net · · Score: 1

now more than ever the internet is a valuable needed resource. It needs hardening up for the upcoming possible terrorist attacks to the most easily accessed piece of our infrastructure.

I can see that running all MS servers and browsers can render it all trash eaily with perhaps the right virus/worm.

The need is for diversity and perhaps blacklisting many middle eastern ips or portals. Can't someone blackhole Peshwar and that cybercafe?

  2. Number of bug reports on Red Hat Interviewed about Red Hat Linux 7 · · Score: 1

Well I have to return to my experiences with
RH 5 and the many many bugs I endured. I put the
worst one that was totally killing me (severity 1)
on the bug tracking RH database. It sat there like
many of the rest. Zero. No replies , zilch.

As in the past I started searching for others who
had the problem and finally got the source and
    found the problem.

Weeks had gone by. My report was still untouched
so I sent them the resolution. Guess what! They
duped it to something else off the wall. BTW I found that they basically let reports stew a loong
time then dup a bunch out. This is what you get
when you don't really give a shit about your
customers who are debugging your product for free.

I lived and worked in RTP for many years as a pgmer/consultant. I knew the area well and thought
that some of the high tech atitude and methods would ensure that RH would field worthy products.
    Wrong.

I like RPM. I like Gnome. I don't like the way
RH does biz with the users who buy their distribution.

I see chickens winging in...tired chickens...chickens looking for a roosting pole.

  3. On being anti-redhat. on Turbolinux CEO Sees A One-Distribution Future · · Score: 1

I am not a linux guru but long long I bought a Slackware book and did a install. I was running a 75mhz Micron so thats how long ago it was. I found it to be an enjoyable experience so I have since kept a neaby pc with linux installed. The error I made was buying a copy of RedHat. This was ver 5 and it was nothing but headaches so later on I went to 6.0 RH was making a big deal about support so I started submitting the severe problems I was experiencing(video configs, etc) to their bugtracking system. What a farce. They NEVER responded to most reports and when they did it was incorrect. They must have slacker dropouts from NCSU manning the support desk. This stock deserves a freefall.Greed has its just rewards as I suspect RH will learn over time. RH is still on my nearby PC but I don't ipl it anymore. This winter Slackware or someone else gets loaded instead.I don't mind paying for a product but I do expect someone who cares about quality to at least hope they get and respond to bug reports honestly. They don't.

  4. FBI Incompetence on First Look Inside Carnivore · · Score: 1

First we must remember just how incompetent the FBI is. With everything they had on Lee at Los Alamos they couldn't do jackshit. The trial of OJ Simpson shows how weak law enforcement is with presenting evidence. Therefore I say that they surely don't need MORE evidence when in most cases having as much as they do they just plea down the defendant or blow the case totally. I have absolutley no faith in a law enforcement juggernaut run by the current administration. The FBI are nothing but the Clintons lackeys? Heres a question. If this rascal gets implanted what will the net citizenry do? What action would they take if any? Why does this all sound like a Gibson novel?
