Wow, they get one month to pull off a large scale upgrade...
Yeah, that sounds scary.
Except they don't have to do the upgrade during the term of the agreement. They can get the media kit/license keys during the term and then upgrade at their leisure. The licenses don't turn into pumpkins upon expiration of the SA agreement.
So I guess it isn't really scary and you're just spreading misinformation.
I don't even think we wanted the Software Assurance in the first place, but I believe that was the only way they'd sell us the licenses for our company.
I've never ever ever ever seen that to be the case. Microsoft is more than happy to sell you volume licenses without Software Assurance. Your reseller might be a bastard, though.
Tell that to all of the Software Assurance customers whose deal ends in December of '06.
Microsoft doesn't guarantee updates every two years (or whatever your term length is). They just guarantee that you get any updates that occur during the term of your agreement.
Also, it'll be available to volume license customers in November, which you should already know.
If three of the notes are similar to a previous recording, you can be sued for infringement. See grandparent.
I did:
According to one of plaintiffs' experts, Randy Kling, the recording "100 Miles" contains a sample from that guitar solo. Specifically, a two-second sample from the guitar solo was copied, the pitch was lowered, and the copied piece was "looped" and extended to 16 beats. Kling states that this sample appears in the sound recording "100 Miles" in five places; specifically, at 0:49, 1:52, 2:29, 3:20 and 3:46. By the district court's estimation, each looped segment lasted approximately 7 seconds.
That's not "three of the notes" in your own work being "similar" to a pre-existing work. That's taking a portion of a copyrighted recording, altering it, and placing it in your derivative work several times.
They can refuse to sell it to you or charge you a ridiculous amount.
You're right, they can. They own it; they get to decide what to do with it. Don't like the fees they charge? CREATE YOUR OWN WORK, YOU DUMB FUCKER. You don't have an inherent right to benefit monetarily from the fruits of somebody else's creativity just because you can make it sound "cool."
Actually, "piracy" is about committing theft (sometimes including theft of people, or kidnapping) against ships at sea.
I mention this because if we're going to object to other people redefining words for their own ends, it makes us look bad if we don't get the definition right ourselves.
Piracy was coined in this context by the pirates themselves to make themselves feel cool. Piracy has some romanticism.

Another easy way to insure that the only people that can put out music are mainstream artists sponsored by major labels. They can pay for samples. You cannot. They control the samples and can refuse to allow you use.
The choice is easy:
1) Create your own works. 2) Pay to derive your works from somebody else's.
Just because your underground dj remix studio doesn't bring in enough money to move out of your parents' basement, that doesn't mean that you need to be a MAJOR STUDIO ARTIST to pay for samples.
Three weeks for a letter? Really? Have you ever actually used the Post Office? Are you mailing from overseas? It doesn't take three weeks.
From a Senator Olympia Snowe (R-ME)'s website:
The Path a Letter Must Currently Follow To Reach Senator Snowe In Washington:
1. Sent from a constituent to Senator Snowe 2. Arrives at processing unit in Bridgeport, New Jersey (2-4 days) 3. Mail goes through irradiation procedures (4 days) 4. Mail is forwarded via Postal Service to the U.S. Senate Post Office for additional security procedures, such as thinning and clipping, Hepa-Vac testing, and examination for bio-contaminants. (3 days) 5. If mail clears the bio-contaminant testing procedure, it is then forwarded to individual Senate offices (additional 3 days).
2+4+3+3 = 12. 12 business days is two postal weeks. This is the best case scenario.
Is the president going to play dress-up, get into an air force uniform, land on an air craft carrier near the Straight of Gibraltar and declare the Spanish American War finally over?
If you can not figure out vi, emacs, or any other cli text editor then why should we trust your programming?
I agree. Knowing ":q!" and "control-meta-6-5-r-n" made me a much better programmer!
Programming concepts are programming concepts; they can be taught with or without an IDE. Any learning programmer who makes mistakes that IDEs will catch will also make other mistakes that IDEs won't catch.
I think his point was that if the illegal immigrants could get decent healthcare in Mexico, they wouldn't need to overwhelm the hospitals in Southern California, causing them to close down.
If I'm guilty of infringement, I can't give a shit. Legal or not, I don't believe that copyright should be binding past ten years - check my past posts, I've got a record of saying five-ten should be the copyright limit, and I do live by that.
Unfortunately for you, what you believe doesn't matter.
"I'm sorry, officer. I don't believe that the speed limit should only be 45 on this road. I'm far enough away from the urban area, aren't I?"
Caveat emptor.
Some companies actually prefer paying $x/year for software licensing so they can fold it into their budgets as a known annual expense.
Probably not as much as you'd very obviously like, though.
Yeah, that sounds scary.

Tard.
Please do.

That paper letter you mail to your Senator or Congressman takes about three weeks to arrive in his or her office.
Next Day courier service will arrive in the office two or three days after you send it.
Unfortunatley, there were people there before the Spanish arrived
I think you misspelled "savages."
And yes, before some other retard replies to me, I'm kidding.
1) You're a fucking retard for reading way too much into my snarky joke.
2) I'm sure the "Latin Americans" picked up the "Spanish" language all by themselves without being "settled" by "Spanish" "conquistadors."
3) The "English - Native American War" will end when the tribes have "earned" enough from "Casino revenue" to buy back the country.
4) Die.
Perhaps you forgot who settled Mexico.

I wouldn't call it "over" just yet.

To be clear, tortuous offenses are actually the domain of everyone. In theory, if Party A slanders Party B, I may sue on B's behalf.
Oh, really?
I think you forgot to sign your completely irrelevant post with "Free Mumia!"
You've obviously never read any school caselaw.
That said, this school is run by retards.
If it really is a case of libel or slander, they should report it to the police. Police enforce the laws; not school districts.
Police enforce criminal law.
Libel and slander are torts and are thus the domain of ambulance chasers.

Actually, T-Mobile's picked up a lot of GSM850 roaming nationwide.
Sour grapes on my part? Sure! That's the name of the game!
Rusty? Is that you?
