Yes, 'big words' have their place, and I use them when I'm writing a report or whatever, but I don't expect them on a site like this.
Everything has its place; if the author wrote all of Slashdot's articles, Slashdot would never have succeeded, because you might as well read National Geographic, and at least in National Geographic the authors have some idea what they are talking about.
