The fact of that matter is, it isn't. People don't care how fast/slick/lean some piece of software would be in a hypothetical situation. They care what it is in the current situation. Like it or not, this tends to be harsh reality more often than not.
Even with the quickstart option, it isn't nearly as fast as IE. Plus, it eats a significant amount of memory. IE isn't a lot better in this regards, but it's still better than Mozilla in my book. Of course, this is all IMHO, and surely isn't an authorative answer like yours.

If someone else were to post a big to do about how MS and O'Reilly were in bed together, that really wouldn't be on topic either, but would get modded up (note that the discussion should most likely be on whether or not the US gov't should only use OSS). There's really not much difference between zealotry and FUD, except one is *nix-founded and the other MS-founded, even if they are identical content-wise. But anything deemed FUD is modded down, even if it provokes interesting conversation, while anything zealot-like gets modded up, even if if just gives us all a nice pat on the back.
So, either be consistend with "Off-topic" moderation, or be a little more open-minded. Just because you don't agree with someone doesn't mean you're right, no matter how much you think it.

Agreed, we are commending them for inaction, but sometimes inaction is an action in and of itself. MS is indeed setting an good example, as the largest software vendor, that hopefully others will follow.
But if we really want to try to encapsulate this sentiment is some unfitting analogy, the best I can think of right now is if MS were the biggest coolest dude in high school. And all the other cool dudes were picking on some dork, but MS announced to them that he would not pick on the dork. Presumably, the others will follow in his path. The biggest cool dude just did what he was supposed to, but because it was he who did it, when no one else dared (or they surely wouldn't look cool anymore), it was laudible.
May I should just repost my last post? Seems you just want a recursive argument. Why argue if you're going to ignore what the other person says? I know what a synonym is. Do you know what a connotative definition is? You've quite clearly shown that electricity is not reliable, then why do you depend on an unreliable service? And, btw, you're point about synonyms would have been much better sited by a thesaurus (look it up on dictionary.com).

I'm not a "microsoftie", but I certainly don't condone the bashing of MS. Being junvenile doesn't help your advocacy cause. But the typical answer to that is that there is no advocacy. What them makes you complaining about MS any different from others complaining about you complaining? If you step down from the pedestal, you actually might be able to see better.
Movie prices are already $8.75 here, and they keep climbing. I can't help but think if the theaters here go digital, that price will rise even more. Hell, it's cheaper for me at this point to guy buy a DVD instead of 2 movie tickets.
What then makes your intentions to wipe out MS any better? Personally, I like linux, but with every new kernel release, something on my system breaks, while I need the new kernel to make something else work. I know most people here won't see it, because they are blinded by something, but in general, this community uses the same MS politics, just on the reverse end. Neither side is correct.
Remember Windows 98 Second Edition? Wow! A bug fix release for Windows 98 that they marketed as a new product - talk about supreme marketing strategy.
If you already had Win98, the upgrade was only like 20 bucks. As far as a new product, would you rather they kept selling Win98? I think it is pretty standard to sell your updated product. If the nomenclature of "Second Edition" lead you to believe that it was a completely new product, I am sorry.

The obvious answer to your problem is not to use Windows. For the rest of us, it's fine.
I found Win95 to be a lot more stable than Win98. I still haven't had my parents upgrade from it since it works so well for them :-/
I've had good luck with XP, but it's mostly 2k with eye candy.
Why can't you blame that on drivers? Just because they were on a restore CD doesn't mean they were the best most up to date stable drivers.

I like Perl quite a bit, but as music I can't help but think it'd be just a loud annoying feedback noise. Or something equally annoying, like Ska.
