I agree with most of the books on this list, and would have a few to add at some point. This would make a good Ask Slashdot, so I'll see if I can get that done. I agree that this text isn't going to please someone interested in either a specific view of HCI, or are looking to apply HCI concepts to specific problems.
As the reviewer, I didn't mean to come out against the other books in this field so strongly, I've read the ones you mentioned and have found them useful. You're right, it was a generalization.
Also, John Holland is the H in BACH, the group that Cohen and Axelrod are the A and C of respectively. He's obviously had a large influence on their thoughts here.
I searched a few terms on northen lights and was sorely disappointed by the accuracy of the hits I received back. It's not even as good as other spider search engines IMHO. Google.com does a better job at having serious hits appear early in the returns.
The layout is pretty nice, or rather clean, but the search was slightly slow. Who wants to catalog more of the Web when it means that much more noise to wade through? I also think the 1/6 to 16% thing is hilarious.
My understanding is that this is going to take longer to get to the commercial sector than the article seemed to indicate. I know several people working directly on Internet2, and it seems the research applications alone are going to keep it busy for several years. To get involved, one just has to work for the university in the IT or SI divisions...
I was there, and you wouldn't believe it.
CowboyNeal caught the bouqet, and he and Robnotrob were immediately married. It was the sweetest thing I've ever seen.

Great Expectations was written in installments. As was War and Peace. The concept of serial publishing is super old rather than new.

Yes, finally someone who gets it! At least I'm not the only pariah in the group!
