And don't just think this is to "get" people who put stuff up any old how, oh no - "[I]f you place material unsuitable for minors on a web page, even on a password protected section of your site and give the password only to your adult friends, you could be prosecuted under criminal law."
s. 45D (2)of the proposed legislation: "It is a defence to a prosecution under this section for the defendant to prove that access to the matter unsuitable for minors was subject to an approved restricted access system at the time the matter was made available or supplied by the defendant."
Rule 1. Never rely on secondary sources.
Rule 2. Refer to Rule 1.
I highly doubt it is against the Australian Constitution. The few rights we have under the constitution mainly rely on Seperation of powers arguements, and this is certainly not a problem with this bill.
We australians have very few protected rights.. Assuming the right to free speech is somehow protected in Australia is not wise.
CNN reports some oddball group not associated with bin Laden is attacking Kabul at night.
The Northern Alliance is the current UN recognised government of Afghanistan. It is also recognized diplomatically as the govt by many other countries.
Perhaps im missing something here, but where did the poster get the impression it was going to be using wireless eth cards? I read the article twice and couldnt find any reference to 'wireless'.
My first impression was they would be decking the planes out with rj45 ports and then allowing you to connect your laptop through your eth card using a cat5 patch cable. Surely that would be a hell of a lot cheaper, at least in the long run, then using costly wireless ethernet cards and setting up a decent WAN. Not to mention possible problems with interference etc.
But cummon, who really takes that many flights longer than 2 - 3 hours
Anyone who lives in australia perhaps? or maybe south africa? or the countless other places more then 2 or 3 hours away from other advanced countries?
Damnit not everyone lives in the states (you may want to lie down to take in such mind blowing revelations)
While a typical GPS receiver can determine its position to about 22 yards, the BlackJack can pinpoint the position of its host satellite continuously an accuracy of about one inch
The GPS system is actually much more accurate then 22 yards. However the only ones that can harness such accuracy are the military. Noise is intentionally added to the signal to decrease the accuracy for civilian receivers. Military receivers know of and account for the intentional noise and thus remain supprisingly accurate.
This site has an informative (albiet simplified) tutorial on the workings of the GPS system.

Oddball indeed...
Exite@home is the company previously reported as being in financial trouble.
The linked article is in relation to Optus@home, which happens to be my ISP.
Optus@home is the joint venture of Exite@Home and Cable and Wireless Optus.
For all intents and purposes, Optus@home is financially independent from Exite@home.
