My two cents worth - but in my experience if you need (ie it is a requirement and out of your control) anmimated menus or something else dynamic, flash has provided more consistent functionality across browsers vs the dhtml implementations out there.
I found that when I got into the industry and started doing different projects than you do in class (ie writing functional web applications vs writing bubble sorts) that I started having a *lot* more fun than I did in college.
Plus it is a completely different environment - you get paid - you get to work on something all day vs having to juggle a ton of classwork.
I had to wait 45 minutes to get in to vote in a line that was snaking outside the poll like people waiting for a PS2 or concert tickets to go on sale. It was awesome - I really felt like people were serious about getting the vote out.
A really great solution would be to make all those components use Bluetooth to 'talk' to each other. Not really sure if that would be feasable, but the first thing that bothered me about the picture was all the wires.
