    A-11 was an intercepter version of the SR-71. Maybe 2 were built. Your larger point, that speed is important for interceptors, to get there fustus, is correct. Dog fighting, once you get there requires manueverability. In todays enviroment it's not so important to get there first as to dominate once we arrive.

    Show me some valid, non fossil fuel industry sponsored research that counters research published by the likes of the National Academy of Sciences.

    Bureaucracy is motivated to grow regulation. We should expect funding to be biased toward that end.

    Rapid climate change is normal. The medieval warm period (exacerbated by knights galvanting about in thier SUVs) was quite sudden. The little ice age, beginning 400 years later thanks to the efforts of 14th century enviro-socialists wearing sensible shoes, was just as sudden.

    Good points. I think the American revolution remains the scenerio to consider. Most anti-colonial struggles have been driven by a desire for the past while the America was driven by a vision of the future. The Australian/New Zealand/Canada model is a possibility but so is a 'sagebrush revolution' against a meddlesome central government.

    This would all be avoided if the American people realized that thousands of local libraries cannot be run from Washington DC and should not be funded with federal dollars. Local dollars means local control and local standards. The same local public decency local public decency ordinances can be applied at the library as anywhere else. AFIAK, no one, not even the ACLU, is arguing that the poor have a right to spank their monkey at the county courthouse.
