Maybe you will get a 400 dollar rebate but they have that for PC's too. I have even seen free computers advertised assuming you were willing to accept scam rebates. Even with scam rebates, why would anyone choose this pad over a computer?
I think I read somewhere that it was intended to retail for $599! I don't know about the rest of you but I can buy a full PC for less. The only way this is going to take off is if this baby is in the VCR price range. It should be simple but also CHEAP! It will be hard for parents to swallow when kids say "I want Santa to get me a XYZ" when that XYZ is $599. If they can make a profit selling it for $100, they should... and no more than $200 or forget about the product. It will only appeal to slashdot readers if the price is any higher.
One should vote only if they "know" the views of all the candidates (or else they are not making an informed choice: "Oh thats a nice sounding name... I will vote for a Bush- I hate blood and Gore"). If a citizen is informed of the choices then they really *should* vote for the person who they think will do the best job (or at least botch it the least). Not voting just might get "satans spawn" elected and you did nothing to stop it. Our government is not the best and a democracy is not perfect but it does *try* to tap into the "collective intelligence" of our society and if you don't put any effort into "the collective", it isn't fair to complain if "the collective" acts like an idiot! In other words "If you don't vote, you really have NO right to complain about what you get".
I remember in the 1980's they had these machines where you put quaters into it and pressed a button (just once) and out came a can of soda pop from the bottom of it. It wasn't over the internet though and you did not have to pay for "shipping and handling" but the delivery happened in seconds!
I am always amazed at how many on slashdot read the Microsoft web pages! I am under the impresion that most here don't use their products (like myself) and so why are so many reading MS's web pages. I am Curious... is it to keep an eye on the enemy?
