Ok if you want to get techincal, then yes. There are many principles which are the basis for captialism. However, how many corporations stay in business when they do no make money? By definition, to be in business is to be working to generate a profit by providing a service or a product. If your costs exceed your revenue, you simply cannot afford to run the business and you close shop. Thus, the capitalistic society thrives on one's pursuit of money (accounting for human nature...)

You are forgetting that capitalism is based on a single principle: to make money. What you say is true about caring for customers, being passionate, but in the end you do those things to attract other customers and to make more money. One starts a business to make money, not to help people. A pizza shop owner didn't open the restaurant because he wanted to keep the local community fed; he did it because he saw an opportunity to make a buck. Thats it. Its just the nature of capitalism, like it or not.

  6. What about FrameMaker? on Writing Documentation · · Score: 1

In my company we have a large UNIX base because all the hardware designers (VHDL/Verilog) and DFT group use unix boxes (Sun/HP). FrameMaker runs on most platforms out there (sure its not free), but its flow is very easy. It has very powerful formatting options and can import PS/EPS pictures with ease. One peave that i have with it is that the diagrams are kind of a pain in the a$$. but you get used to it. It producess very good looking documents, on par with LaTeX. I used everything, from HTML, LaTeX, word, ASCII, and although LaTeX is my favorite, FrameMAker is not too far behind. In a multiplatform environment i think it is the way to go.

Ok. Basically the problem I have with this is that we allready know what happens when EVERYTHING is stuck into the kernel (M$ Windows). The kernel is supposed to be lean, mean, device/task management machine. Look at what happened to microsoft when they stuck all the video code into the kernel? It only made things worse. I am all for the fast desktop, but we have to come to a point where we must say NO! We will not put this hog code into the kernel. I just don't see the guaranteee of stability of the kernel once you dump something as flaky as video drivers into it. I may just be wrong (god knows I have been in the past.. on limited occasions however :) )
