During my final year at uni I did an implementation of a molecular interaction simulation written in C++ in strict OO style.
Though this was very cool, and actually worked, the conclusion at the end of the project was that a strict OO implementation was much less efficient than a traditional, procedural approach. I assume that this finding has probably been repeated across other areas of engineering and modelling as well.
