I mostly agree, but they have some really great uses. As a grad student, I am able to mark up pdf's with a cheapo stylus and save them to my dropbox account. Never lose another one of my papers I spent hours reading and highlighting. But other than that, they aren't that great. Watching netflifx in bed or on the couch is nice, but you have to prop it up somehow. Netbooks are better for that.
The always on feature is nice, good to keep in the kitchen for recipes, and reading/marking PDFs (if you're into that). Otherwise, $500 towards a decent portable laptop is a much wiser decision.
