I once had that on a hijacked router. When I opened Chromium, I got an audio announcement telling me that my computer had been infected, and it prevented me from closing the browser: my only escape was logging out and logging back in. I had no way I could lose that, so I had to exchange the router for a new one.

One thing I'm curious about - why are you looking at moving out of FreeBSD? While some of the Linux distros you listed ain't yet w/ systemd, some are just starting to come on systemd. So if you want to stay away from systemd, why go to Linux? Also, 10.3 seems a tad dated for FreeBSD. I just got a TrueOS DVD and upgraded, and it right now runs on FreeBSD 12.0 current.

  10. Re:Just. Run. The. Damn. Wire. on Linksys Latest Company To Unveil a Wi-Fi Mesh System (engadget.com) · · Score: 1

No. You use the app to configure the phone - from the number that Vonage gives you - and then use it to accept calls either through your WiFi or cellular data connection. Whenever you call, it connects to the Vonage servers, then routes it to your ultimate destination, and appears as a cell call to the person you're calling.

Reason I mention it - when I signed up for Vonage, I received 3 Motorola cordless phones, one connected to the RJ45 and the other 2 wirelessly to the primary. But I almost never use it if I have cellphone in hand, since the app allows you to configure your cellphone to ring every time your Vonage number is called. I have 2 cellphones - one personal, one official, and I've set them both to ring when the Vonage number rings. So for people like my clinics and other things, I give them my Vonage number, so that I get their calls regardless of which phone I happen to have w/ me.

I know you were referring to plugging the wire to your phone. That's not how you have to do it. You can use the mesh to connect to your access point, but from the access point, you can access it using your laptop, cellphone or tablet. Or if you have a wireless router, you can use connect it wired to a laptop so that you can configure the thing when needed.

They no longer make advances in anything else but iPhones. As my current hardware slowly dies, I'll be replacing everything listed above with better quality hardware made by other companies.

This sounds so true. I went to an Apple Store in Reston, recently, to get something for my iPad, and they told me they only sell iPhone accessories, not iPad accessories (even though one can still buy iPads)

I bought an iPhone 7 recently, but only b'cos I was upgrading from a 5s: had I possessed a 6, let alone a 6s, I wouldn't have bothered. Apparently, the camera in 7 is better, but not much else

  16. I'd be curious to know how many people actually want unlimited data. Besides the millennials who are hopelessly addicted to their phone I bet 75% of the population still uses less than 1GB per month in data.

Actually, when I had downloaded one of those news apps on my new Ellipsis a year ago, I forgot to turn off the cellular data, and result was that since that news app was always running in the background, I ran out of data very quickly before I noticed what was going on. I turned off the cellular data, but for that month, the damage was done.

But other than that, you are right - I've never come close to even 1GB. Although this is b'cos my car has a GPS of its own, which is a lot more convenient than a phone's
