    A good vm should do enough accoutning to allow you to log back in and kill those.

    So, try this in FreeBSD, and be amazed, now try it in any 2.4 or 2.6 linux kernel, and be disgusted.

    Is it me or is the yahoo indexer more upto date
    and encompassing than google these days.

    I've done many obscured searches that have turned up no results on google, but many on search.yahoo.com
    (accurate results to boot too.. :) ).

    Could this be related?

    I guess the one trick pony is up for some rough riding ;) hehe

    PS: I do work for yahoo, but not in the search or any other related group, so take my comments with a grain of salt.

    It's interesting that FreeBSD influence is getting
    recognition at SUN... Maybe now they will be persuaded
    to support some of their products on FreeBSD.(aka Java, and yes, i know about the FreeBSD java group
    and their agreement on the 1.3.X jdk with sun)

    Which is basically a dual g5 powermac with a
    custome XP version on it. Plus windows WILL run
    on the PPC... The Xbox will be PPC, so there
    will be a version, which actually a lot of titles...

    Hrmmm. I wonder if the next Gen of Xbox ModChips
    wont be add on cards to your favorite powermac.. hehe

    Well, while not code forks per say.. the Berkley releases contributed much more than userland back to bell labs..
    VM, tcp stack, scheduler, and so on...

    SunOS 4.X and previous? /usr/ucb in later version, plus many other sprinkles? most of the newer parts of the original ATT code base WERE taken from BSD, aka, the USL lawsuit settlement..


    Most other unixes have a LOT of BSD based userland... Not only by taking directly from the bsd releases, but by the mere fact that ATT ITSELF took some of the parts of the BSD releases.


    But, replying to the prent above, that IS the whole point of BSD. This was PUBLIC university research, and as such, ALL tax payers, even corporations, are allowed equal access. A simple fact most of the GPL zealots forget. Public money, Public domain ( well, it should at least, lets not go into details.. hehe )

    It's still not copletely ready...

    Using ipfw and dummynet on freebsd is the way
    I have gone in a VERY high traffic hosting
    and colo company.

    you can not only simultae a link of a certain speed, but can also limit any ip that hits a certain destination to a max speed...

    This is not a flame, am really just curious...

    I compiled and ran the "memory hogger" application
    and it did not eat more than 424K on FreeBSD..

    I know you have a lot more to do thatn to answer silly simple questions BUT.. why is that :-D..?

    I do own a car in the city...

    But like most people in the city, i take public transportation.. it's just not practical most
    of the time to drive into the city. specially to go to work.

    Step in to a nyc subway, and you will find ALL parts of the economic spectrum.. From homeless,
    to CEO's ...

    So, it is possible to have a widely accepted mass transit system. You just HAVE to make it NEEDED, USEFUL , and RELIABLE.

    ( although after the damn 2 train became local, I don't know if I'll stick to the damn reliable part :-P )

    adapt to each platform. They only advocated
    the use of binary packahges when the developement
    tools ( mainly gcc, automake ) are not available.

    It's basically an RPM based FreeBSD ports tree.

    Novel idea.. but am not sure the use of RPM
    is the best choice...

    We shall see...

    And the reason that it does? well, it's because
    most cpu designers read his published works :-P

    ( i think he published the findings in 89,
    and the first intel cpu to use it was the pentium )
