You eliminate a large chunk of the paperwork when a sig on the dotted line passes the logistics to someone else
You don't want Richard Branson lobbing stuff up 'there' randomly; there is a great deal of non-cheap stuff in orbit.
Then, if stuff comes down and wipes out the Marikina City Footwear Museum, think of the international uproar.
That's why it's rocket science.
I, for one, think the little pop-up balloons on the system tray and start menu have all of the appeal of a celebrity trial.
Configured a limited account, logged in, and the annoying bubble says "There are unused icons on your desktop, would you like my to clean that up for you?" and I'm thinking, please, anything to shut this OS up, so I play along, and it throws an error about being unable to create a folder somewhere.
Presumably, this is a vaguely positive thing, inasmuch as the security features may have worked, I think. http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/winxphks2/ is really a requirement to make sense of the situation.
While I don't disagree with your negative appraisal of human nature, my hope is that the internet can form the basis of a feedback loop driving the system towards increased transparency, if nothing else.
Actually, without cameras and recorders about, the one or two politicians I've encountered off the record turn out to be reasonably intelligent people, who genuninely want to try to do what they perceive to be the Right Thing, for the country, their constituents, and themselves.
None of them are as miserable and corrupt individually as all of them are together.
Reading a few hundred pages of help documents and web sites to only find out that you really cannot get two sounds at once from your multi channel sound card after all, is how you build character.
D00d, it's a sound driver, not a font subsystem. U r teh st00p3d.
That doesn't help the historical stuff, though. Domo for the link, boss.
Now, let's write a crawler that will help make this useful information.
Power to the peeps, an' junk!
Furthermore, you can stand by for updates of those operating systems to obsolete your existing hardware by fiat.
It's nice to have the opportunity, if you desire, to maintain a driver and keep the stuff working.
Lost a perfectly servicable scanner that way...
My curiousity is piqued by the idea of getting a hold on the 13-ish budget bills that Congress staggers towards passing annually, in its palsied fashion.
Are these documents just scans of hardcopy (what you'd expect) or will some be transferred in some.pdf-ish format?
It would be a great Summer of Code project to do some indexing and analysis to figure out WTF.
Government accounting, as Ghandi said of western civilization, would be a great idea.

I'm gonna live in L.A. drinkin' all day,
Lay by the pool
And let the record company pay,
Talking to the devil on the batphone
All of the time...
Clearly, Lemmy should run to replace der Governator in California, as his grasp of local issues is so clearly demonstrated.

Bruce Campbell in "Army of Bob".
In a Jackie Gleason sort of way, concur.

How could you not mention GNU/Emacs?
Now, if we can just get Gentoo to target this...
Easily the least necessary image of the day.
Quite a couple what?

Possibly "Master of Transhuman" is, h(im|er)self, a politician, having judged me more harshly on less evidence.
Have you any relatives that went to the Naval Academy? Seems I recall a classmate with your surname, sir.
Now, come on, Mr. G-man: we know love is something you've never Felt...
D00D, it's so advanced, you can go forward in time and play Duke Nukem Forever, just for a second.
No Such Agency
So many kernels, just the one GNU/Emacs...
Possible skeletons in the closet?
MS blew off security for years, because there was no perceived value in it.

Gentoo-to,
Gentoo-to-to, or
Gentoo-two-to,
Ah, the treasure chest of trollery that is the English language...
Oh, maybe after you graduate.
Maybe.
Have nothing better to say for yourself
Think having more degrees than a thermometer is somehow cool
Have somebody else picking up the ridiculous tuition tab.
Lack sack to make it in the real world
Enjoy the power trip of having a captive audience, forced to laugh at your insipid jokes if they want a decent grade
Instinctively reach for big words to cover your fecklessness
Got banned from slashdot for excessive trolling, so now what you gonna do?
