If Gene Ruth thinks there is no problem with DVD media he should try looking at some instead of quoting the brochures. I have a large DVD collection (about 3000) and I can tell you that a large number of them have already developed "laser rot" and won't play any more. How long they last varies from one maker to the next. Some of them are originals from the dawn of the media but others have failed and turned "brassy" in less than 5 years and no longer play. Surprise! I see a lot of failure from recent ones made in China. I've also had Verbatim DVD-R media that failed in less than 3 years.

What can Chinese consumers get for their money with some cheap, plastic iPhone knockoff that doesn’t even run iOS or is part of the iOS ecosystem? Such an item would be a very poor fake. It would be like buying a true Nestle’s candy bar and then buying a chocolate-covered piece of cardboard. Chinese citizens can’t really be that stupid, can they?
Sounds promising, but what if all of your cells are infected? or 80%? or 50%? or 20%? Could the cure be worse than the disease? “The good news is that we killed off the virus that was making you sick. The bad news is that we killed you too”.
