Government has played the biggest road block in the price of your bandwidth.
For wired market you can see free market in action within the US by looking at Kansas City Metro. North KC is seeing prices drop from Time Warner and Comcast because they have to compete with Google Fiber. Much of Johnson county area has dropped price because Time Warner or Comcast have to compete with Surewest who offers fiber to the door.
Wireless is another matter. Spectrum is limited but you also have 3.5 companies essentially colluding on price. It wasn't until recently that Sprint finally started offering true Unlimited (which is funny because some customers have always had it due to old plans). However even their unlimited is not truly unlimited.
If the Government is going to claim stewardship of the airwaves then they would be better to either contract out to a 3rd part who is only allowed to whole sale the bandwidth to service providers and maintain and expand the network, or they need to free it and let the market sort it out. Either way is preferable to the system we have for wireless now.
Yes, because we need so many more lawyers, underwater basket weaving, and studies major.
I'm not saying their is not a place for them but there doesn't need to be that many of them. If people and companies were not taxed as much then maybe they would be willing to give grants more to majors they are interested in. And believer it not but we really don't need everyone going to college.
As for student aid many schools would probably be able to do it themselves if they didn't have the federal government monkey on they back telling them how they should do it. And don't kid you self the money the fed gives doesn't cover all of what the schools have to pay in order to offer said services. It's still the local schools who pay the bulk of the money.
How does the US government generate jobs by giving tax payer money to another country? That would be like me taking $5 from you and then giving you $3 to go sweep the streets. Frankly it's not a good investment strategy.
