  1. Max Headroom rises! on ABC Wants DVR Fast Forwarding Disabled · · Score: 1

Does anyone recall the old Max Headroom television show in the '80's? You know, where a future was portrayed where TVs, by Law, could not be turned off... or silenced...

  2. Plot device: keeping pace with modern times on Hidden Codes in Printers Cracked · · Score: 1

And here I always thought this ploy was to help Frank and Joe Hardy keep up with the times. Now, instead of tracking down a criminal via typewriters, they use the yellow dots of laser printer output to nail the bad guy.

From there it will branch to Nancy Drew, the Boxcar Children, the Bobsy Twins and others.

  3. Re:There *is* a license! on SSH Claims Draw Open Source Ire · · Score: 1

Because most OSS and Free (FSF definition of Free) software people can use without regard for the license. All OSS and Free software licenses I've examined govern copying/distribution, not actual use. In the Business/Corporate World, they are only failiar with licenses that govern use and distribution (EULAs).

  4. Re:I hope they improve on the Mac version on Mozilla Roadmap Update · · Score: 3, Informative

The memory consumption issues kept me away from firefix for a long, long time. Whether on MS XP or GNU/Linux systems, the result was always the same: after a day of heavy usage, Firefox was slow, slow, slow. Memory consumption was always higher than any other program I used. As it neared the 1.0 stage, the memory usage became better. Not ideal, but better.

Sorry I cannot corroborate your Mac usage, except state the same happens on other platforms.

  5. Re:Mormon on SCO Roundup · · Score: 1

Oh? When in the Bible did God command one of his worshippers to delibrartely break one of his own commandments? If these records were about to be destroyed, then how did Ezra (writter of Chronicles) compile the exhaust geneology found in the first 12 chapters of Chronicles? Especially when Ezra lived many years *after* the supposed destruction of the records?

  6. Re:Mormon on SCO Roundup · · Score: 1

Even more interesting, if you read the book of mormon you learn that their religion was started by thieves. One of the claimed historical figures in the book stole records from the Temple in Jerusalem before setting sail for the North Aremican continent.

  7. OT: JW Corrections on Google vs. DMCA and Scientology · · Score: 1

Comparing Jehovah's Witenesses to MLM's is, for the most part, wrong.

    1. There is nothing in their belief system that equates number of people converted, to status in their religion. On the smae token, monetary status has nothing to do with this.

    2. Most (meaning probably 99%) JW's focus, not on Heaven, but on living on Earth eternally.

    3. According to their belief system, of the 144,000 'seats' available in heaven, only a few thousand representatives remain on Earth.

However, the zeal or energy they have in proselytizing, as you said, is more than the match for an MLM :)

  8. Changelog changed my life on Linux 2.4.7 Released · · Score: 2

Life was going nowhere for me, until one day a friend directed me to get help. "Who should I see" I asked. Rather than suggesting a doctor, analyst or other orthodox methods, he directed me to the Linux PrePatch Cycle of happiness and relief. An unbeliever, I doubted him until, that is, I patched my kernel to 2.4.7-pre5 and then:
-pre5: - Andrea Arkangeli: softirq cleanups and fixes, and everybody is happy again (ie I changed some details to make me happy ;)
Yes! Happiness entered my life! The sun was shining, birds were singing. And then came -pre6 and my life was forever changed, I became a firm believer:
-pre6: - Tim Waugh: parport drievr documentation, init sanity
My sanity was restored, initialized like I had never been able to do. Yes friends, the Linux Prepatch Cycle changed my life, it can change yours -
