"I know this is my home, but there isn't anything here for me," said unemployed Navajo nation member Leonard Murphy, 22, who dropped out of school at 14 and remembers little of the Navajo he learned in elementary school. "Everyone's leaving, getting off the reservation. Now there's nothing to do here except drink beer and watch Star Trek."

Although it is fairly inaccurate that there are only 1000 speakers (and yes I know it's satire thank you) it's really sad to say that truely affluent speakers of that toungue are becoming quite scarce, my generation is almost 100% non navajo speaking, sure they know a little to some, but they are not affluent speakers of the language..

How do I know this? Well to start with I was raised in Farmington New Mexico which is just outside of Shiprock (basically the Navajo Nation's capital city) and I've had many Navajo freinds through school, only a handful of which spoke any navajo at all, and maybe one or two of which were fluent. Not that I would be able to tell, Navajo is a very unusual language, very gutteral and primitave, although enchanting in it's own right.

I can certainly believe that Klingon was modeled after Navajo, they sound amazingly similar.. And as far as more speakers of Klingon? It's actually possible that there are more casual speakers although I doubt that there are more fluent speakers.. However I could scarcely imagine it being as hard to learn, as most people describe learning it as somewhat,, well.. Painful.

As an aside, the Navajo people are probably one of the most wonderful cultures in the world (especially their family values & strength of their family ties) and I would encourage everyone to learn all you can about these wonderful people.

Heh, much ehh?? Well, to be fair I may have been wrong about the article being on /., you may want to check the evil MSN site..

Interestingly enough though, the reason cited in their study as to a possible reason for the benefit was due to the fact that it's actually very natural to fast.. Our bodies were designed to handle the lack of food, and as a matter of a fact, we as a species have only very recently (in terms of our species history or course)started having enough food (or more importantly a steady enough source of food) so that 3 squares a day is possible..

So, I do submit to you sir that it is truely a natural way of life (not that I intend to continue this behavior for much longer, more than one more month and there will not be much left of me to lose except muscle mass) but our bodies are actually (ok I'm relying on an article here, I really don't know shit about this, but through conjecture I'm pulling this out of my ass) designed to handle this, furthermore we are really designed to eat this way instead of our current "normal" eating schedule. Why do you think we store fat in the first place?? Because we have not evolved beyond our bodies expecting feast/famine conditions. They (the people who were responsible for the research on the article) even suggested that it helps the body to become more resistant to certain conditions due to the fact that it puts a small amount of stress on the body to fast..

As an aside several (quite popular) religions embrace the practice of fasting, not for medical reasons obviously, but it is commonly known that there are plenty of "lost" bits of archaic knowledge embedded into religion that the original purpose of is totally lost to ceremony.. It is interesting that fasting is one of these "bits" of lost wisdom.. Just a thought..

Food is not evil, it is your freind, but just like any freind too much of them will eventually turn them into your enemy, while a total lack of contact for extended periods will end the freindship.. A good balance is necessary..

It's really quite a simple equation...

Let's call "Calories Burned Per day" cBpd

I also should have mentioned that a regular intake of daily vitamins is essential.

But you are very correct that some of my habits do indeed border on very unhealthy/anorexic but I really do beleve that is the only way to lose weight for me, as I'm a "results" person, if I don't see the results then I will not stick to something so fast weight loss is key for my success.

So, how did I lose weight?? Subway... J/K!!

Actually I've just learned how to eat right more than anything, instead of eating hamburgers and fries (or panda express) I usually eat salad, most often without dressing, but sometimes I'll splurge and throw in a little bit of ham, or some fat free dressing. Once in a while I'll even eat a veggie sub.

Keep in mind that fat free != Calorie Free, and calories are what you need to avoid.. Most doctors will tell you to not go below 800-1200 calories per day, although I've been at under 500 for quite a while with no side effects..

And instead of eating a huge amount of anything I'll just eat a small amount of something, I've found that after doing this for so long my stomach has shrank so that it only takes about ten bites of something and I'm stuffed..

I've also cut down to eating no more than twice a day, in addition to that I fast at least one day a week. I've also started to excercise quite a bit (running, or swimming most often)..

As an aside, I noticed that I can start to see a 6-pack showing up, really cool because I've never been able to say that before.. Funny thing is that right now I weight 10 lbs less that I did in eighth grade..

It's pretty amazing how much better I feel too, I still smoke more than a pack a day, but for some reason I can run a few miles without getting really very winded at all (prob. partly because of the increased oxygen levels here).

But beleve it or not I really don't even think about "what" I'm doing anymore, it's just become normal.

So, if you can force yourself to do this, you too can lose an insane amount of weight in a short amount of time..

However, IANADoctor, so do this at your own risk, and don't be stupid about it, if you start to feel bad, eat something, just try to stay away from high fat- high calorie foods.. I'm the type to be a bit extreme about things, so this has worked for me, but a more moderate version would probably be better for most people.

Quality isn't so much the issue as I see it...

In other words quality is at an all time high,, it's longevity that's the problem.. I think there is some connection between complexity and problems (think Murphy's law). But there are other issues that are plain stupidity. A great example is the current line of Epson photo printers, I've owned three of their models over the last three years (yikes! one per year..) All of the printers had a common flaw, the printhead is built into the carrier for the cartridges in such a way that it's nearly impossible to get at the actual printhead, this caused the problem of having to run the "Clean Printhead" utility and waste a ton of ink (not to mention it didn't work for crap). HP however has the idea with replacing the printhead with each cartridge, although Epson's cartridges are cheaper because you never replace the printhead.

I've found a few nice tricks to keep your inkjet working right at home using stuff everyone has, I'll share...

If your printheads are clogged up a soft cotton rag with water on it will do miracles (I've also found that in really bad cases you can suck a bit of ink through the printhead, but it doesn't taste too good, although on the bright side it doesn't seem to stain your mouth as long as you rinse it out right away...)

If you're getting software communication errors check your cable first (although that is usually not the problem) and then go after the contacts on the printer with isopropal alcohol and water mixed 50/50 to clean off the spray of ink that is ever-present in an inkjet (if you doubt this take a rag and wipe the inside top of your printer or watch someone spraying paint) as it can cause bad connections with the inkjet cartridges.

Other than this, all I can say is the warranty for 20 dollars that I buy with my printers from Office Max has been the biggest blessing I have had..
